I don't think its a fad since its been around longer than surfing but it is like telemark because all the hot MILF's are in on the action.

Local shop throws a fish fry every full moon then we go out and cruise around and listen to bands playing at the various bars. It's not all about exercise.

Nope some surfer told me that.
Didn't believe it so I looked it up, started with outriggers then stand up then they dropped the paddle to start surfing. I've been surfing for 30 years, love it but also like to try something different especially if there are a lot of cute girls around.

it reminds me of when mtn bikes hit the mainstream in the late 80's early 90's. then kayaks hit in the mid to late 90's. now the SUP's are on the same path. all this stuff ends up in the yard sale pile for most.

I SUPed at Tahoe with my 13 yo son Sunday. It was fun as hell. Not thrilling, but just mellow fun. I could give a shit what anyone thinks about it. If I lived on/near the water, I'd get one.

SUP'd this weekend in CT, but the Caribbean is made for it. The water is so clear, I was able to get out and catch the elusive Manta Ray of Francis Bay, only because I had a SUP at my disposal...

ya, the visibility into the water is pretty damn cool from a sup.

local shop give tours and people are always flailing and falling in, but it can be tricky in a swell, chop and in wind. anyway, last week this girl says 'what's that?' Oh, just a 6-7' shark. ha! no fall zone! water has been stupid warm of the coast on NH lately, but it sure is nice to be in trunks. a lot of jelly fish too...little odd.

SUP seems kind of boring/pointless without any waves to ride, but then, unless you're in Hawaii, the surf crowd will vibe you hard for showing up at a break on a SUP. I think a kayak is a better all around vessel for cruising lakes/rivers/shoreline.
