I just dismounted some fucking skis, and the centerline is obliterated.
What's nice and clear is the center hole from Marker Tours that were on them. Seems to me that that hole is about 2 cm forward of bc. Can anybody confirm this?
On a completely different note:
I have a Dynafit jig. Its an old jig. I am trying to center it. How close is close enough? In a good shop, are jigs periodically checked, and at what point does somebody mess with them?
I realize it doesn't matter hugely, but I have some really nice new skis. I am, on principle, trying to do a perfect job.
First time mounting my own. Went flawlessly. Wouldn't have even considered it without this thread tho... many thanks.
Aaaaaaannnnnd my local shop fucked up the mount on my Automatic's. Rear binding is loose. Went to hand tighten the screws and cant go any tighter. its shaky as me on a monday after an epic weekend of drinking.
Aaaaaaaaaaaand see the post title
Sucks. They owe it to you to fix. At that point I'd just call them out, get a refund for whatever it cost, and fix it yourself....
Either the holes are not drilled deep enough, or possibly they used epoxy in the holes so you can't drive them in any further (though the latter is unlikely).
This.
Remove the binding, get the appropriate stopped drill bit and make sure the holes are deep enough... doing your best to preserve the existing threads in the holes.
When you re-install the binding, put a waterproof glue in the holes and go slowly and gently to get the screws started in the exiting threads. Hand tighten until there's no gap between the binding and the ski.
Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season
You may need to chamfer the holes slightly if there was volcanoes around the holes.
I would also be prepared to helicoil the holes if need be.
Shop definitely FKDUP.

What he said. Scrape off any material on top sheet. Tap holes. Mount.
Better yet redrill and install inserts since at least it sounds like holes are in the right places.
www.slidewright.com is your friend for mounting tools
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Thanks for the help, I'm mounted.
It's a hell of a lot easier with a jig or paper template. Just wanted to let the people kind enough to make templates for new bindings know that they are appreciated. Keep up the good work guys, lots of people benefit from them being available.

Man, purty grizzlycorns. Sth2 green is a sexy binding. Jeffreys?
I mount my friends fucking skis also. They pay me in cider. I DJ and make them drill at least half the holes
wait!!!! waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait...Wait!
Zoolander wasn't a documentary?
Kartel 98s, thanks
Got two pairs of skis for my kids, and two bindings. When I got mine, it included template. No luck this time. Is it too hard to include? Damn it. Nothing in the thread. Will try to google it.

Question on taping the drill bit to ensure that you don't go too deep. I taped the drillbit at 9mm but when I did my first test drill into an old ski everything went fine but then when i drilled into an 2x4 the tape had moved up the bit due to ski/wood going intot he bit an pushing the tape but thus going too deep. How do you prevent this without using a bit collar?
yeah IME tape will move and so can a set screwed collar for that matter SO I use a wine bottle cork as a positive stop
Drill a hole thru the middle of a cork, slide the bit up or down in the chuck so the exact amount of depth you want is protruding from the cork and tighten the chuck, this way the hole can only be as deep as whatever bit you can see and if the drill bit does happen to slip it can only be less deep as opposed to drilling thru your base
make sure you sober up before using the cork

Same idea as the cork but I don't think you can get the bit far enough into the chuck which is why i use the cork which is easy to drill thru, a piece of wood will also work

If the home brew methods are giving you trouble, just buy the proper bit. It's a relatively small investment that will probably last you a lifetime of mounts.

I did my first mounting of my own fucking skis (Dynafit Speed Radicals on Lotus 138 Pures): success, but kind of cheated. I borrowed SlobMonster's Dynafit jig, which made things pretty easy. At his suggestion, I drilled them first for a normal screw mount and tested the fit, then redrilled for inserts. One toe screw is slightly tight (must be off like 1mm), but everything goes down fine.
Still, I totally plan on doing it for all my future skis... way easier than I figured, especially with the right tools.
Yeah... I've been eyeing it covetously, especially if I continue current trends of a new pair every year, possibly changing mount points, etc. It would probably take a while to actually come out ahead, but I feel like I did a better job (especially with inserts) than I see coming out of the shop... zero volcano on my work.
Ugh. After not finding templates, decided to just bolt down this Literail thingy on my daughter skis. Bolts all aligned, but somehow I managed to slip the whole thing off the boot center on one ski by about 5 mm forward. I think I looked at wrong marker.
I moved front and rear binding by one click on rails, and end result is that boots are in about the same spot, with couple mm off at most. Not sure if the rail off will have any ill effects.
Not keen on re drilling as it is a light foam core kid ski, and I mounted on marine epoxy.
