    Neighborhood Avy Video

The Rise and Fall of a Neighborhood Avalanche.

It pales in comparison to the photos recently taken of 15ft. crowns. But when something like this rips behind your house, it tends to get your attention.

Slid: 1-13-05 after four feet of new snow and 45mph west winds.

Slope angle: 35 degrees on average. Has a 45 degree summit that builds cornices.

Vertical: Slope is about 500ft high, slide ran 450ft of it.

    Elevation: 7100-7600ft.

    Aspect: East

Starting trigger: Spontaneous. Probably after the cornice broke and dropped on the fragile, wind loaded slope.

Slide path: 300ft wide. Ran 450 vertical feet. 1-3ft crown. Stopped 50ft. from my neighbors house. It has ran past my neighbors house about five years ago. Flattened all the aspens and ran through his driveway. The newly constructed, monster vacation home down the road will get hit hard one day.

Video is 3 minutes and 6mb.

Next time you're in Logan, look up Dry Canyon to see the large slide that ripped there. Just go to 200N - Center St, somewhere in there, and look east. You can't miss it -- south facing slope.

Are you talking to me or D? Be back Monday. Can you see anything from your place? Or do you need to get back farther?

Saw a lot of slides in the Wellsvilles on my drive yesterday.

I looked at the pics on BRAIC, wow! I have never seen this much snow or slide activity in Logan since I have been here.
