Once is Enough Avvy?

Todays forecast says it slid yesterday, 1/12/05
Any info?? Nothing posted on jhsnowobs

"Yesterday a skier triggered a sizable slab in Once Is Enough." is all they say.

The slide was triggered by a pro skier. It was a deep slab which supposedly slid on the depth hoar. The skier straighlined out of it and did not get caught. I'm not going to post any more info because it doesnt need to be spewn (made up word) all over the internet. You can probably get details by asking around.

Not Sure, but I think this is probably the same one as a friend of mine was involved in.

He was skiing OB, fully geared and with a guide. Guide dropped in first, slope went. Once 'safe' my friend found him, dug him out and called in the heli. Two broken legs, which have now ben operated on to put right. Otherwise, everything is okay (? - you know what I mean....).

Sherpa, appreciate why you didnt want to post, but that is DIRECTLY from someone involved. Unless you guys have had another slide this w/end???

Fortunately my friend has spent much time in the BC, both here, in Europe, and over in the US. I highly doubt therefore for that it was anything excessively sketchy, and was more an unfortunate case of the slope deciding it was time for it to go.

It was a different incident. The one you're talking about happened on No Name.

Sherpa's right. The incident in Once is Enough happened Wednesday.

The guide was slid Saturday morning, on a southeast facing slope in No Name Canyon. I wasn't there, but knowing that slope and having skied similar aspects that morning, I wouldn't have expected it to go. Most of our activity Friday/Saturday was on steep northeast faces that had been windloaded the past few days.

Fair enough.....The details I got didnt mention the name of the area it happened - but then text message from JH to London doesnt exactly give you huge room to include minute detail.

Its kinda scary as just last week he was skiing the canyons, prompting me to send him a msg to take care. A few days later I get the msg that he was involved in an avy, but was totally fine. Kinda creppy...

Well, whatever else I hope all the Teton area mangs are looking out and taking care of themselves - I'm sure they are - as we don't need any bad news on these boards. Its enough that its happening to 'other' people.
