    PNW....Where's the SNOW??

    Yes, another complaint thread.

So, I took the GF up to the pass last night to teach her to snowboard and to get her acquainted with fresh powder snow. I thought that this "storm" would produce some snow and show itself last night, but never did.

    High pressure this weekend.

At least it looks like we might be getting some precip next week, here's the 10 day forecast for Vancouver. I'm getting pretty tired of looking at my shiny new skis and wondering when I'll get take them out and have some fun...

Due to the lack of snow, I'm drunk a lot. Seems drinking takes precedence over skiing ice....

Stevens claims they've gotten 23" in the past week. That counts as major dumpage this season.

The snow is here, and is killing people. Bitch about the instability, not the depth.

On the bright side....this may be a good year to get some screamin' deals at the ski shops.

come down south....on Mount Bailey, we've gotten 50"-60" on each of the past two weekends.....our base is about 100" on the flats, way more where the wind loads it up. We've pretty much bridged that nasty faceted ice crust that you guys are still dealing with, too.

We were skiing chest-deep fresh all last weekend....its probably settled out to nice knee-deep by now.....

This was supposed to be a "weak to moderate" El Nino. Next year better be a "weak to moderate" La Nina.

    Damn straight it better be!

It's hard to be optimistic, but if there has ever been a time we need some decent cold air, now's the time.

And Pineapples- stay the out of WA/BC this week!

    Thumbs up

[you didn't hear it from me]Alpental is opening tomorrow for season passholders only, not to the public, but they'll open Armstrong(debbies run only), Sessel and St Bernard.[ydhifm]

hopefully it'll hold up so night skiing can start to happen over there. I need the work!

    Angry SHIT!!!!!

MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OLYMPICS WASHINGTON CASCADES
    AND MT HOOD AREA
NORTHWEST WEATHER AND AVALANCHE CENTER SEATTLE WASHINGTON
    7 AM PST FRI JAN 14 2005

    WEATHER SYNOPSIS

An upper level ridge is centered offshore along about 130 degrees
W longitude early Friday with strong surface high pressure over
southeast B.C. This is producing weak northwesterly flow aloft
and northeasterly low level flow over the region with mostly
clear skies and very cold temperatures. A complex series of
weather disturbances associated with an upper low pressure system
are slowly approaching west of the ridge. Little change is
expected in the conditions over the region Friday except for a
gradual increase in high clouds from the upstream disturbances.
Temperatures should remain cold with easterly flow through the
Cascade passes and light northwest flow at crest level.

Things begin to change as the upper ridge slowly moves to the
coast and weakens by Saturday afternoon. This should allow the
offshore warm frontal moisture to increase and spread over the
area from the southwest during the day Saturday and also ushering
in the beginning of a warmer air mass. Light precipitation is
expected to begin initially over the Mt Hood area Saturday
morning increasing during the day and spreading northward to the
Olympics and central Washington Cascades by midday Saturday.
While warmer air aloft should gradually move into the area
Saturday increasing easterly flow through the Cascade passes and
at mid elevations should help insulate the central and northern
Cascade mountains from the warming. The warming should however be
experienced over the Mt Hood area by late Saturday. Warm frontal
precipitation should increase late Saturday and Saturday night
over the central and north areas.

In the longer range, by Sunday the upper ridge should weaken and
move further east of the area allowing for an increasing
southwest flow aloft. A series of increasingly strong and warmer
systems should move into the area through the extended period.
While more showery precipitation may be expected Sunday, by
Monday the strong jet stream should reach the southern Vancouver
Island area. This should bring increasingly heavy precipitation
at further rising freezing levels. Initially the heaviest
precipitation should be over the Olympics and north Washington
Cascades gradually shifting southward later Monday. Another
strong storm at even warmer temperatures is expected Tuesday with
strong winds and heavy precipitation. Currently model freezing
levels approach or exceed 10,000 feet Tuesday.

WTF!!! It is balls ass cold for three weeks with little precip, and now here comes the precip, but you have be at the top of Rainier to see it in the form of snow.

I have lived here long enough to know that a 24 inch base at Crystal in the middle of January is not normal.

Every year we also get a nice pineapple express around this time too, but usually the mountains have enough coverage to handle it. With the precip forcasted our hills, especially the Summit, could be in a world of hurt after this week.

Just a bit frustrated... as you probably could tell.

    fuuuuuuuuccckkkkkkkk

this just sucks. I have never dreaded looking at the fn forecast..
this year it is just horible, everytime they predict a dump it fizzles, however everytime they predict something crappy like say 2 inches of rain with a fl of 10k it becomes like 4 inches of rain with a fl of 12 k.

    fuckk

    so frustrated right now.

"As special appreciation for our BIG S Passholders, this weekend’s opening of Alpental will be reserved for passholders only. Alpental will be open Monday for passholders and day ticket purchasers and we are also allowing Expanded Passes to be used at Alpental on Sunday. With the limited snow coverage, very little grooming has been able to be done at Alpental. However the recent snowfall has added up and should make for some fun turns!"

Totally serious......more forecast on the way for this weekend, too. We're the only place in the NW that has any decent snow (I don't really count little Mt. Ashland....), we've been just catching the northern edges of the dumps that have been pounding the Sierra and California Cascades.....and it all came in with 1000 foot snow levels.

We have a 5000 acre playground, a brand-new custom cat, and everything we need for avy control.....come down and treat yourself.....

How far in advance do you need to book as of late, for weekdays?
