Open call for FOBP avy scholarships

FOBP is working hard this season to create a scholarship fund for aspiring grassroots avy educators to attend advanced AIARE field courses.

Last season we sent 12 of our most seasoned volunteers to Silverton Avy School for 4 days of intensive snow study and organizational team building. They came back committed to sharing that experience, both with each other, as well as with our members.

The whole premise of grassroots avalanche education is that you hang out and learn from us and promise to help teach with us, and we'll help you get specially tailored training courses in advanced topics like rescue, first aid, leadership and snow science.

We are a smart group of people passionate about skiing and eager to share ourr knowledge with friends. If you're anything like us, we'd love to meet you and your friends. Check out our website, event calendar, blog, Twitter, Facebook etc. berthoudpass.org And shoot us an email at info@berthoudpass.org if you want more info

Here's how it works: If you meet some basic criteria (Avy Level1, good attitude, 18-yrs-old, etc) and after helping out with our on-snow courses for at least one year, you may apply for a scholarship to cover 50% up to $250 off an AIARE Level 2 course.

We will provide you with free, in-house Level 2 prep clinics and coupon codes for any required snow study or rescue gear you need to buy for your L2. In exchange you agree to come back and share your knowledge and experience with others.

If you've already taken a L2, then you can apply, on an individual basis, for 50% tuition reimbursement for advanced courses on the condition that you come back to lead clinics and classes.

Pretty basic really. We have special relationships with Silverton Avalanche School, Alpine World Ascents and Alpine Ambitions, but you're free to choose any American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education -approved course provider.
