What skins to buy for new AT setup?

OK, so I did a search for skins and there are way too many threads to search to find the one that talks about skins suggestions?

Since I am a JONG about this whole skinning thing, what skins are good for the 05 Atomic Sugar Daddy? What things to I need to look for with skins. Advantages and disadvantages of certain skins. Thanks.

Get BD assension skins in the width just wider then the tail of the ski. Then trim them to fit. I fixed a tail and bungee to mine that hooks under the heel lift of my Freerides. All good advice. With that width of ski you can have a little more edge showing which helps on traverses. I like the tail clips but they need to be set just right for the ski length to have enough tension on them. You might want to Dremmel a notch in a rounded tail ski to help keep them in place. Get ski crampons - You'll use them a lot once you've tried them. If you try the new retractable 05 crampon then let us know how you like them.

ditto to the above rec of BD Ascension skins. They're my fav. Let me know when you get some, I've gotten really pretty good at trimming them all nice. I can show ya my tricks and do your first pair for ya if ya like...

My advice: get standards then beg BD for a glide lite tail rig or get one from G3. They work much better than the clip fix.

I have the blue cow hide skins (Ascension Glidelight STS) and haven't had any problems with them. I like that tail system a lot better than the clip fix.
Cutting and fitting the skins is fairly easy - just be careful...
The previous advise about the width is a good one. Never tried ski crampons, maybe I'm just out in the powder too much

Quick Thread Drift: I must agree, but only because a guy on an AT set up with crampons kicked my bootpacking ass up Buffalo Mountain last spring. I slipped, postholed and swore alot while he laughed. End Thread Drift

Now back to our regular program: I just got a new pair of cows (Glidelites) and really like them. I feel they climb as well as the regular Ascensions and the STS tail kit is way better than the clipfix, especially if you may ever change skis.

Definitely take Yossarian up on his offer of help. Screwing up has unfortunate consequences to your expensive new toys.

If you screw up trimming modern skins then you're so dumb you don't deserve to ski.
