Picked it up this evening. Stopped just in time to keep the skeg from hitting my garage door. Dang this thing is long. Now I just need a paddle. Paddle's going to cost more than the board.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

Don't forget to mount your paddle cam
So, I don't know where you live, Sinecure, but the lagoon in Foster City is pretty good for learning to paddle. Water is warmish. If you ever get decent, check out Bolinas. There are many breaks there where you can get away from surfers.
"Yo!! Brentley! Ya wanna get faded before work?"
Paddle cam would probably make the viewers seasick.
I used to live in Foster City and took my Hobie Mirage kayak around that water a lot - also out in the bay and even all the way to Hayward once. I may go paddle there, but the water is so gross when you fall in. It seems a little cleaner in the bay and a lot cleaner on the ocean side (although I doubt I'm up to waves yet). I was thinking I'd either go down to RWC harbor or the Belmont Slough for starters. I did go to one of REI's intro to SUP classes in a slough up in Marin one time and found it pretty easy to stay aboard the big Laird SUPs they let us use.
If any bay area or tahoe folks have a spare paddle I could borrow for a while, I'd be happy to reciprocate with apres ski beers at Alpine or maybe an Alpine ticket or discount if they give us any freebies this year (not sure yet what the Squaw policy will be for employees).

I get sick watching pole cams and that didn't stop anyone
paddleboarding a winsurf floater board is how the sUP CRAZE began.
your new board is perfect.
paddles are cheap at second hand thrift type stores and
new paddles @carlisle paddles&oars.
the wide thick decks are for the fatties

Ok, from someone who has used an old 12 and 10-6 windsurfer for SUP, it works.
it not 30/32" wide and yes its a bit tipsy. but for paddling Flat Water they work great.
I have 2 for people who I don't want to spend a lot of money to try and they work.
as for paddle you are going to have to spend about 100.00 for a one new and you might find a
used alu or glass one for say 75.00. but know this, These Board Do Not Surf...
the belly bottom makes them hook on waves and you will not be able to surf them.
strictly flatwater SUP's.
now as for SUP's
I still surf my 6-10" and 7-0's for surfing and I have never given longboarders a hard time,
if you can surf waves good then you have a right to be in the lineup. especially with guys
like Robert Wingnut and His Buddys and a host of great longboards too.
what I don't get is why everyone hates SUP's...
I don't get it. you go anywhere else other than west coast and they are everywhere.
Pipeline, Teahupoo, Indo, the list goes on. yet every time I am out on one and someone
says those things suck... I say you stand up on it and paddle and I will leave. 7-0 so far
I have not left once. I will say that I would have never thought you would use so many
different muscles to surf them but its true, you do. I will admit that I bought one for days
at the lake, or when the swell is flat I can paddle for 3hr and feel it. as for surfing them I
will say they will never compare to real surfboard and such. but to have it in my quiver
and know that I can do it now is cool and that is enough for me. I dare any surfer to
stand on a 9ftr or 8-6" SUP Wave Board and go out and ride waves. It Will Humble You...
6'10"? What about a short board?
Randy, if you can spare the time, Elkhorn Slough is a great place to paddle around. Or, when the swell is moderate or less, Capitola is pretty flat.
at 6-1" 200lbs and 50...
a 6-10" is short enough, paddle/float over nimble/thin
plus my sweet potato 6-4" but that's for fun days only.
^^^^^^ thats funny I don't care who you are... do they make one for tow-in surfing
Wow, I've never heard of tow-in surfing.
Do tell us more on why tow-ins should have their very own Bozo the clown logo.
Skiing made me Board
It is great when you make your 500 post, and along comes a package with all the answers in it. Duck, listen, learn. And who is laird? Funny sounding name.
for fun, some and I mean some think that any form of surfing
other than paddling into a wave and riding a short board is not real surfing.
like bodysurfing, boogie boards, kneeboards, standup boards, tow-ins
they all have there haters for sure... yet they all ride waves like everyone else...
and while Bozo has his very own sticker in all, you can't tell me that when guys
see a boogie boarder come into the line up on his sponge board that there isn't
a vibe of Kook go elsewhere... just like I use to think of snowboarders as guys
who were never going to get it, look where that took us... they now out number
skiers I think. the question of who are the real surfers in the water is not for me to answer,
I think its who is having the most fun out there.... I'm good with that, peace out.
