VOTING: MPC #74, FOLIAGE

I think we can all agree: this has been a great contest so far. It was hard to get these down to 5, but I fully expect that my task was easy when compared to your task of getting it down to one. I feel bad that some folks got left out (fuzz, mtcham, hotdiggity, skiingislife, etc), but I had to go with a selection of shots that was varied, and unfortunately redundancy with another shot of the same style that I preferred took some of you out of the running. Moreover, I gave a slight favoritism to shots that used foliage as a natural "boost" than as the subject. As much as I like the classic peeper shots, I thought it was cool how some of you used foliage to take a shot that could be captured at any time of year, and improve it.

Finally, I think some development (i.e. post-work) and more careful composition and forethought about a shot could have taken some very close contenders, and gotten them into the final; at the end of the day composition was (almost always) key for me.

Just as a reminder: I listed a few things at the top of the original thread for the entrants to keep in mind. IMO, these things should be as relevant to you when you vote as they were to me when I selected. Anyway.... enjoy.

That shouldn't matter- open the thread, scroll down and look at the pictures, and make your choice. My opinion isn't altered one way or another based on someone else's comments.

For some reason people post their votes for every contest, so this one shouldn't be any different.

Well Steve, I've seen the vote sway in these things based on positive and negative comments, so just trying to keep the playing field level for all.

It's a request, but really should be the etiquette for these things. Talk about it all you want after it's over, but while the voting is going on, hold your fingers. It's why TV doesn't report on election results until the polls close....

Weird, but trust me, it's awesome. You should probably vote for it. Actually I bet it's because your work blocks smugmug and my file is linked from there. I have a buddy whose work blocks that site for some reason.

Yeah, I see it at home. At work it didn't give me a red X or any kind of "blocked" message, it was just an empty space. Too bad I already voted, because I really like your photo.

ml242's should be fixed. i put a copy on my server, and hosted it there so we avoid any bandwidth issues. if anyone sees any other technical issues let me know and i'll try to fix it ASAP.

The timing missed us here in the lowlands the other way. Colors are really only starting to show now. We're still at least a week from peak color, I'd say.

Has the voting time period always been 8 days long? It just seems to me like most of the votes are in in the first two or three days.

Also, nice shots all around. One of the best MPCs in a while.

I have some constructive comments to make, positive & negative, but I'll refrain from making them until this MPC is over & I remember to dig this thread up, and then remember my initial comments, and how relevant I thought they were at the time, and then post them in all of their relevancy.

That or I'll get distracted & go straight to the NSFW thread in the padded room.
