Ah, bummer. Hope your lungs recover and you pull sub 7 again!

That's awesome. I do better once I get in rhythm, but the beginning is tricky for me.

So I found this HI workout that I've been doing every other day. I sweat, feel it, and am done in 15 minutes.

    30 seconds light pace
    20 seconds medium pace
10 seconds as hard as you can pull

repeat 5 times. 2 minute break

    repeat 5 more times.

^^35 minutes of exercise crammed into 15 minutes is a good one.

10 or whatever number strokes at each pace would be a lot easier to keep track of for me.

    Who rows? (Concept2)

I love rowing. I kinda got into it last year a couple months before I blew my ACL. Was doing a lot of 5km on lunch breaks. So much technique to use a piece of gym equipment, lucky me my wife rowed crew in college so I got lined out.
This was first row a year after knee surgery.

I just set a stopwatch to run which makes it pretty easy to track as counting strokes seems to make me think more about the counting than the way and tempo of the pull.

    I'm in, bitches.

In what could only be described as realizing that I'm old, fat and stressed, I pulled the trigger on a C2 and aim to do a workout before work most weekdays.

Any tips for starters would be appreciated. Sounds like Darts is the go to game here? I set it up on my deck outside so I could at least pretend I'm doing something cool outdoors.

Darts is a god way to get in a quick 2500 meter row. I often do it for warm up before lifting. I like 500m intervals all out with 30 secs of rest in between, can be an ass kicker. Slow 5/10k's are good for active recovery.

don't crank the resistance to 10. Try like 4 and see how that is and adjust from there in the future. How hard you pull and how much you get out of it is not dependent on a high number it's dependent on you.

Not knowing anything about rowing, is it worth youtubing some shit on form and technique?

I dunno about youtube videos but some kind of instruction is a good idea. It's really easy to fuck up your back with bad technique. Based on pretty much everyone I've ever taught, good technique is not natural.

I second iceman's comments about the resistance. I usually have mine at 2-3.

I just got one as well, as in my name finally came up on the the three month wait-list and I was able to order. I've been using one 'occasionally' at work for years, but never with enough regularity to see improvements. I've never tried Darts so I'm looking forward to that.

Do some research on the HIIT protocols. Will save you a ton of time.

Welcome to the club, new participants! Darts are a fun warmup as others have mentioned. After 3 months of C2 ownership My PR is 14515. The concept 2 webpage has some good tutorials and their rankings are kind of fun to see where you're at against your peers.

I try to mix it up between the standard exercises (500m intervals w/ 1 min rest, 2k sprint, and 5000m cardio).

Still trying to get to a 7 minute 2k, which I was close to before the Rona hit, but taking a year off the C2 wrecked my times. Just did about a 7:30 today and it took almost all I had.

Christ, I did a 2k this morning for my first row and I think it was 10 minutes? I wasn't giving it a lot of gas but I can see how challenging that would be.

I can also tell that I was doing it wrong...Upper back is sore in a not good way. Going to do some research.

Yeah, your pace will start improving pretty dramatically with a few months of time investment. There's a reason the C2s are so popular...they work. But get that technique dialed before you worry about going fast. Keep that upper back straight and focus on engaging your core while hinging from the hips.

New Darts PR, finding setting the resistance higher, around 8, keeps me more consistent.
