Sad news! Sounds like it's dangerous out there with all the traffic and the bad lower layer. Stay safe out there everyone.
++++Vibes++++ to everyone involved in the slides, and RIP to the at this point unknown skier who was killed in the slide.

RIP old friend. You will be missed.
Hunting kicks ass.
Chicks dig Labs.
I'll keep my job, my money and my guns and you can keep the change.
From my cold dead hands.
^^^Yeah, it's a small community. Good luck to all Mags. Condolences to the victims, friends and families. It sounds like things will be unstable for awhile. Err on the side of caution, be patient; the riding this year is just beginning.
Sometimes pride comes after a fall.
Yeah I'm guessing a lot of us know this person well. Echo the bad feeling. Hoping I'm wrong but we'll know soon enough, I'm not gonna go digging.

Vibes to all involved but WTF, did everybody lose their minds???
Feeling for you guys out there.
Saw the gunsight slides go by while we were skinning up Susie's trees. It looked like the first group went down after the first slide (with no real communication, and multiple people skiing in the chute fairly close to each other at the same time). We saw them get to near the bottom, then the second slide came down. I didn't have a perfect view from the trees, so I'm not sure whether the injured skier was from the first or second party.
We started heading over to get a better view and possibly assist in the rescue if needed, then saw another skier coming down gunsight holding a third ski. We asked him if everyone was alright/accounted for, and he responded that they were. We decided to start skiing, and when we got down to where we could see the bottom of Gunsight, we saw ~8 people clustered around an injured person. They said 911 had been called, and looked like they had the situation under control, so we continued down. We did another lap through there, and patrol still hadn't arrived. The injured skier looked like he was in a lot of pain, and was getting cold, so I left my puffy with him. Ski patrol showed up shortly after that.
Stuff was definitely pretty touchy today, but what i noticed more was how little people seemed to be thinking. There was a pretty decent slab that broke loose in upper thirds a good bit before the gunsight incident, so I can only assume that the crew (s) that ended up in gunsight had to skin right by it on their way up. We noticed whoomfing in the flats, and widespread windloading basically everywhere. People were not using their heads at all - skiing Baldy today!?
Anyway, I hope the skier caught in gunsight recovers quickly, and everyone else who was out there unprepared today thinks twice in the future and takes an avi course. As others have said, just because it's a resort doesn't mean it's not backcountry right now, and there's PLENTY of snow on the ground to get into bad situations.
Super sad to hear this...

No gear, fuck. Guess that rules out a lot of people though.
Looks like either Restaurant chutes, Enchanted Forest, or South Chute. Bad place to be today.

snowboarder. birdhunter's old friend. no gear. expert boarder. at that age, only leaves one possible choice in my mind that i personally know & i really, really hope it isn't him. if so, slc climbers will feel the loss just as much as us if so ...... don't be him!!
regardless, thoughts and prayers with his parents, family and friends!!!

Don't think he was a snowboarder.
Vibes for real...

it's a stock photo.
everyone on facebook is posting "jamie". i don't know who jamie is, but vibes to friends and family.
edit: matthew jamie pierre according to KSL. assuming that's the jamie pierre. wow. even more unbelievable.
I wondered because of this...
Either way that sux. I wonder if they were avalanche trained? If they didn't have gear I doubt it. The thing is people don't realize how much danger they put others in. Triggering slides on top of others, going into the BC without a clue. It is just insane.
OMG I can't believe it! RIP Jamie. HIs poor family. God bless them.
