Those are pretty fat skis when you only weigh 18lbs.

Has anyone made it to the snowfields of Timp yet this year? Thinking this weekend will be a good one to get my July turns in if I can get up there due to the fires.

As of yesterday, Timp snowfield is still good for turns to the little pond below the hut, although chode-surfing BYU fans have trenched it out pretty well. I did not ski, and the snow is quite lumpy, if not suncupped. Timpanooke trail is closed due to the quail fire.

Yeah it still skied to the pond last August when I did it but it was suncup central and trenched as hell towards the top where all the momo goons had come down. Timpanooke, though long, is the only way I'll make that approach with all that gear on my back (plus we were able to ski down some of the ravines last yr even once we got down low). If that's closed I'll probably have to hold off.

Went up AG on the 4th. Lot of snow up there, carry over patches from 10/11 winter are visible in several sections. Was first time hiking Timp, got directed towards wrong trail which led to 4 more miles and 600' more verts up and down

    across lake up:

    from slightly above the lake:

from shoulder on lower summit ridge:

    headwall:

Skiable but watch out for rocks. Not many on the headwall proper, but there are quite a few in the rest of the field. It's going to get worse fast, needless to say with the Arizona summer we're enjoying.

    Couple shots..

Went up to Timp Sunday with a buddy. I will say there is less coverage now than there was last year on Labor day. I am starting to worry about my September turns now. I got the usual idiot questions or remarks about how there isn't any snow.

Here is how she looks as of Sunday

wow... that's way worse than my trip up there to ski last August. May not even bother with it this summer based on these pics.
