From today: Biggest results were out of Limber Pine, a good class three new snow and a class 3 off of Superior ridge between the peak and Little Sup, a deeper smaller ~5' pocket. In BCC a class 2 in Rock House running short of the road. Provo cleaned up Slide Canyon and a half tracker in Lost Creek.

    For tonight/ tomorrow:
Thursday March 1, 2012 UDOT will close the road in Lt. Cottonwood canyon at 2200. Backcountry Access Closure all areas north of LCC canyon road from midnight 3/1/12 to 8:30 a.m. 3/2/12. Restrictions/Closures expected to be lifted by 8:30 a.m. 3/2/12.
Maybe do some work again in BCC if the forecast high-ends.

    Thanks,

    Brad

You lucky bastards, missed it by a week, enjoy it. But it will be a good March and April like it always is, except maybe Utah residents will ski into April instead of mountain bike like they usually do....
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Good skiing in the trees at mid elevations today. Winds were whipping around the new snow in the morning but quieted down a bit in the afternoon and the sun even tired to come out.

Slayed some sillytude 'cludin a stellar g spot for bmc
sun popped out and we dropped out hc return for some meadow skippin

3 of us added a single as her partner had bailed. Headed over across the first main bowl ell rollo perhaps idk all the meadow skipper names to the subridge skiers right of poop chute
    skip to my lou

there was one previous track that appeared to exit the poop
we regrouped before entering the steeper aspens and a decision was made to ride the subridge and then enter left lower into the pc exit
I skied down 2nd to regroup I was ~ 20' ft above S and just after I stopped the steep slope skiers right remotely released about 40' to 50' away and below.
S heard and saw it From my vantage I only caught the powder cloud at end. Neither noticed a collapse per say nor any cracks near or beneath us
    looking down

    crown face

~2' we were all on time/commitment restraints so I feel bad for not properly documenting
    much.
debris fanned out fairly wide 3'-6' in spots ran full track on slick bed surface perhaps a foot on summer road

the decision was made to ski out the bed surface
    stepped down a bit lower

once clear we notified soli dispatch no tracks above or below were we came out.

got a few pair of fatties to mount will try and add more later.
    and summit to uac
damn not feeling obligated to summit a slide this season was one of my goals
armchair er up if ya want
I wanted to get into the poop chute earlier fwiw but got vetoed on a slope angle/consequence/terrain decision

You know how I know it's going to be sick skiing in Utah tomorrow? I'm high centered in St. Anthony, ID enroute with a flat and a spare that won't hold air. You're welcome.

Powder and sun. It does not get much better than that. A few point releases on mid-elevation east aspects. The skiing was faster and had a little less ski penetration than yesterday.

Ya smuggs I avoided the Tri-Canyon area today, so I am sure it was not as deep as over there.

UDOT will do avalanche control work on Mt. Superior in the morning on March 4, 2012. A closure is in effect for the terrain north of the canyon road in Little Cottonwood Canyon from 11:59pm an March 3 to 7:30am on March 4 from Gate C through Grizzly Gulch.
If you are skiing early, you can still go to White Pine.
    Thanks,
    Brad

thanks BD for taking the time to update here in detail; you and all the rest of the UDOT, Alta and 'Bird crew have been killing it day and night for the last week or 10 days or so!!

I think I can speak for the rest of the skiing community and SLC tourist industry with a hardy "THANK YOU" for many "best days" of the season, lately (even though in NC since things got exciting over the last 3 days) .... and most importantly, providing all with safe travel to and from.

Nothing new to report other than I finally made it up Friday, despite the flat and the LCC closure. Leftyt is a Great America for allowing me to play follow the leader at Alta on Friday. Deep stuff found until closing. It was good.

    Saturday at Solly was decent.

Sunday at Alta yielded more fartbags, helmets with sunglasses and old equipment than I'll ever seen in a single season in Montana. The epic goggle tan/sunburn I received was also great.

Big thanks to the mags that offered to spin some laps with me, even if we never connected. The favor will always be returned in Montana when/if you come.

Got out this morning, north facing up to 10k or so. Not much new snow, ~1". Stout wind slabs were forming up higher. No collapsing/cracking heard or observed. Variable skiing, direct N or slight NE skied the best in protected areas. Wind was blowing from S-SW, would we wary of N-NE ridge lines.

First off RIP Steve and Chris and vibes to everyone up in the Teton's. Surprisingly dry powder is still lingering around the Wasatch in the mid to upper elevations out of the more exposed locations. Lots of wind damaged snow up higher. Sun was heating up things today maybe a corn cycle coming?
