Dude had a sayin when you returned to the trailhead cracked a post tour brew. He'd smile toast with a "this is what we do"
that being said I rousted up a mutal and long time friend and partner strapped those skis back on my feet and headed up to check the TP and silly f coverage. E bowl looks to still be delivering some good turns and the cabin run
held a mix of various non and barely supportable crusts. I'm survivial skiing trying to protect the wing, but funky turns, in it feels as if every other turn should release and a few on steeper terrain did let the bag of sugar flow.
I'd give pit data but one just needs to read the Drew gloom and doom of death on the fuac page to know whats goin on with the snow pack or go find out on your own if sharing facebook links doesn't do it for you.

Sounds promising finally. The reason I asked is I have a new pair of Coomback's in 181 with FRP's that I have not tried other than a few inbounds laps, they look the same. Just could not bring myself to use my new pair until we get some more cover, plenty of rock skis I can use until things improve.
use the rocks skis till upper CW base gets round 80". ya, i'm old and conservative. those coombacks will be right about perfect for the general snow conditions once things go to normal out there. perfect choice.
enjoy the pattern change. gonna be like the 4th of july on most any slope steeper than 30, maybe even 28 for weeks.
be safe

How much food ya figure I'll need under the bed with me while waiting it out, roje?

A little pre-storm wind was experienced today. There were intermittent pockets of wind slab on SE Toledo near the summit, but nothing was overly reactive.

beware the powder panic!!!!
Some snow transport going on today in mid and upper elevations. It was snowing fairly good when I left lcc around 1:30. Anyone know why pole line trail has been closed lately? (Today and Monday) There was a sign just below the yellow one and the lights were flashing today. I didn't read anything on the UAC site this morning and didn't get a text about any artillery shooting going on...wtf?

Low angle, mid-elevation, sheltered aspects skied fast and silky today. Ski penetration was around boot deep on sheltered slopes. Saw this slide from the other side of Grizzly . From the report on UAC it looks like it was triggered from right on top of the ridge.
Skiing on low angle slopes was good!!

Can someone up in BCC or LCC fill us in on what is going on with the moisture up there? The Collins stake looks like something around 1.3 inches of water has fallen in the last 24 hours but no snow accumulation has registered. Is it raining up there like it has been raining in Park City at 7000 feet most of the day? What is the snowpack like?
Taken from the UAC website:
"Well, we got our slab finally and it’s like paste out there!! Titus says “Yikes” with 14 inches of inverted snow containing 2 inches of water at Alta. Other snow totals are 4 to 8 inches in Big Cottonwood and along the Park City Ridgeline, and Sundance is at a foot...Most everyone is in the 13-15% density range and noting a distinct inversion within the new snow. The snow level is near 7000 feet this morning."
I stopped riding b town around 4:30 and it started to pelt on us with some very hard snow pellets, definitely a wet snow. My goggles also kept fucking fogging up because it was so fucking humid out. You had to put me in a clothes dryer to get all the wet snow off of me. Snow turned into rain right around silver fork coming back down the canyon.
Skiing inbounds today was awesome. First time this year it felt like a legit storm day.
I went up to twin lakes earlier today with a buddy to ski the lower angle trees on the pass. When we got behind the patsy ridge we saw fresh debris from a slide that crossed the skinner and buried recent tracks. I believe it was triggered by two skiers going up the ridge.
The E facing terrain dropping to twin lakes looked extremely loaded from the strong winds, and it was. We kicked a couple of cornices not getting anything to move, but on the last lap I saw a little bigger cornice and gave it a kick. It tumbled a few times before releasing the slope. The initial slab broke about 100yds wide quickly propagating to 1/4 mile with slab depth ranging from 8" to 40". It ran about 900' vert pretty far into the flats below.
The slab broke just below the cornice which cracked further back, but didn't move
This all slid
And past the edge of the photo in the other direction
This was everywhere
This chunk somehow stayed intact
More crown lines in the distance, same slide
A strainer
Most of the bed surface was a stout wind slab approximately 5" thick between layers of facets. The faceted layer beneath the slab was 6-10" deep. The avalanche stepped down taking with it the hard wind slab in a number of areas
