    So this just happened...

So last week I came across this blog article on the SAM website. I read it, hit the like button, re-posted it to crackbook. Put "Intersting" in the comments. Today I receive the following reply from the US Terrain Park Council.

WTF. I seriously have no fucking idea what she is blabbering on about but this is some stellar PR.

Looking forward to hearing back from her. My feelings were a little hurt by her letter.

    Message Body:
I saw that you tipped your buddy of Tribal Extreme off about USTPC. First of all, I don't know who John Rice has been talking to or who he thinks is on the board of members or founders of the USTPC but no one has ever been an expert witness or at all a trial lawyer or ever sued a resort at any time in their lives. We are all just riders, some educated engineers, some researchers, some past terrain park designers, all just trying to set a line of best practices in the industry, since no other industry organizations will openly do so. You are entitled to your opinions, but I would respectfully ask that you not implicate any falsifications, lies, slander, or libel about any of USTPC's founders or board members or the organization. I respectfully ask that you be informed about a subject and what an organization is actually about before you say anything about it. Thank you.

    Respectfully,

Heather M. LaHart, USTPC Co Founder

    My response:

    Heather-

First of all I don't appreciate your tone in this email. I'm not sure where you get off spouting accusations of libel or slander. All I did was re-post a link to THIS article from the S.A.M. blog on facebook....I think my only comment was "interesting". Literally.

I don't know who John Rice is, I don't know what Tribal EXTREME is, I don't know what the the USTPC is and, I don't know who the fuck you are. Frankly I don't really give a shit about jumps in the terrain park as I am so much of a better skier than any of those goddamn fartbag wearing ass hanging park rats. I huck cliffs.

Also, and I'm just saying this to help you understand how dumb your email actually is. (keeping in mind that I never wrote or said anything about whatever your organization is) But you are accusing me of libel and slander because I re-posted an article of someone accusing you of being a litigious group...ON FACEBOOK. You aren't helping your case much.

...and the only comment I had was "interesting". Its still on my wall, go have a look then post your apology on there too.

In closing, I respectfully ask that YOU become informed about what you hear before sending butt hurt emails to random people on the internet.

I just read this website below and the SAM posts, makes sense what they are doing but in the comments thread,....... this guy kind of ends the thread,

"I use physics in a manner that's appropriate given all of the many variables that are out of your control. Using only the factors that are constant and can never change regardless of rider skill, weight, pop, weather, wind, snow condition is prudent. Design it in a vacuum because in that environment can you truly distill a jump down to its bare essentials and weed out user, wind and snow factors. Knowing that a given takeoff angle matches a given landing angle for a given jump profile combined with the associated minimum required velocity at the point of takeoff to reach the landing as well as the maximum velocity at point of take off to reach the mid point of the landing seems to work great for me. I'll let the fact that I've never had a catastrophic overshoot by not a single park user in 12yrs stand for itself. If you want to waste time with coefficients be my guest....what time of day to you want to measure them, what temp, what water content, what sun exposure, is there particulates in the snow???...did the user wax his board? Was the user wearing tight jeans or baggy pants...where is your wind tunnel to test rider air resistance...did a gust of wind hit the rider while on the tranny. Try and collect that data after the fact and have it stand up in court! It's ludicrous to try engineer a jump and its placement relative to other features based on such specific variables when the conditions and properties of snow change daily if not hourly and minute to minute in some locations! The instant the conditions change your coefficient based formula now becomes worthless."

There is a very angry yet boring debate over on the SAM website. Here's something that stuck in my mind. I quoted this from one of the smart park founders.

"if you become a member (which is only $25) you can see a whole BUNCH of information including our criteria. Or, you can order a Smart Parks Educational Seminar and get a Smart Parks Educational Booklet that EXPLAINS everything!"

I wonder if I order now and pay separate shipping and handling I can get an extra one free!

The person who contacted you seems a little sensitive, but you blew it with all the profanity in your response.

Did you really tell her "I huck cliffs"? Yikes...

Yeah I thought you could have toned down the responses... the whole flies with honey than vinegar thing....(not that that was your intent, but)

    my reaction:

who is the SAM, who is the USPTC, who are any of these people. And who cares.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Normally I ask people whether they want to be "right" or "effective," unfortunately you accomplished neither.

Why the hell would he need to tip-toe around her feelings? The whole "I huck cliffs" bit was funny and what the fuck does he care if she has a problem with it? E-mailing someone who merely posted a link on facebook is a clear demonstration of being completely and utterly clueless.

Tone down his response? Seriously? Did I somehow end up on alpinezone.com?

She's going to go through her whole life not knowing how stupid she is unless someone unmercifully lays into her. Really, you're doing her a favor. Next time your response should be a bit more abusive.

I don't know what drama they have going on over there and I really don't care about her feelings, also don't care about being right or effective soooo yeah. Was just amusing myself with the response.

Still haven't heard back. I'm giddy with excitement though!

WTF is "Tribal Exreme" sons of bitches ripping off my content...

Anyways I got a less-offensive (but still butthurt) comment from someone at USTPC. Working on arranging an interview with them later this week or next week.

    Response to Regan T

Hello all. I responded to Regan. I would like everyone to know that I got his information from the blog site that published an article about USTPC stating various false statements and claims and implicating him for tipping them off and giving information about it. I apologize for the tone, but sometimes being harsh is the only way to get things through to people, and if you read the SAM article there are some not so nice things that have been said. HOWEVER, REGAN IS NOT AT FAULT. So I have addressed my (and USTPC's) sincere apologies for implicating him in this matter. I have also contacted the EXTREME NEWSLETTER about this matter. I completely understand Regan's response and tone to the email that I sent him.

    My response is as follows:

    Regan -

My sincere apologies. On the Tribal Extreme blog site, which is a collection of a bunch of people's blogs about action sports, there was an article about USTPC telling lies and false information. At the end, the person who wrote it credited you for the information and tipping him off about it. So I am dearly sorry for accusing you of anything because obviously its not you who is spreading innacurate information but it is that blog site (indicating you as providing info and a link to your blog). People might not agree with what the USTPC is doing but its def. not OK to be spreading lies and rumors about a company, which is what USTPC is so frusrated with. I was wrong and sincerely apologize for accusing you of libel and for the tone of the email, as you did nothing wrong. Have a great season.

    -Respectfully,

    Heather M. LaHart

A picture of you hugging a hot chick with your shirts off would go a long way toward atonement.
