    Epic-esque pow poser...

When confronted with a big open powder field do you

a). straightline it at mach loony
b). make huge sweeping GS turns down it
c). bounce up and down as if you're on a pogo stick

I usually opt for c). and was trying to teach Mrs Roo the technique of the bouncy powder turn only to realise I was the only person doing them. Everyone else at La Grave was opting for a). or b).

Although I do like stupid speed, I often feel that to straightline powder is to waste it. You can do that sort of thing on a groomer. Have we all been watching too many Jeremy Nobis segments or is the short swing powder turn truly old hat? [/epic]

    B) high speed GS

but normally on the EC, you have to go with C and B combo) as there are no big open pow fields.

farmer dave doesn't seem to thinks so...

if there's not much, i make little squiggles just to feel it. if there's plenty, i normally do medium radius just to get more of that wonderful, sinking feeling...but then again, i'm a gaper.

I'm a big time old school type "C" guy. I feel the same that the straight line is a waste of the pow pow. Funny though, as the day lengthens I turn more into a type "B" guy.

I only rode on powder once, and I leaned back into my heels and rode on it like I was on water skis pretty much making only a turn here & there to slow down a bit. I know...bad bad bad! But it felt nice and that's what matters, eh?

Usually B with some C thrown in. Bouncy powder turns are fun as hell, as are big arcs. Powder straightlines are kind of a waste to me, almost like taking the easy way out. Now straightlines through gnarly crud, thats burly.

Hey Vin what happemed to A, mach looney can be fun in the trees. Just wait till we get some snow, er if we get some snow. I miss pow but I guess being in VT my pow technique generally starts out with wiggles through a worm hole, then mach looney through the spaces, followed up by GS through trees and topped off with a straight run to the road. Damn I miss snow.

Mainly a C man, depends what I'm doing. I find it easier to maintain control (at least on my old skis) with the almost-always-in-transition effect it gives you. When I've been trying my powder tele recently I find C easy, and B easier than with parallel, but again with my new skis who knows?

    An example

I always think I'm doing B, then get down and look back up to see something closer to C.

And Kronkite sucks for deleting his funny thread.

Hey, self-deprecation's my middle name In my defense, I couldn't see them from above - though the camera man could... didn't think it necessary to tell me on the radio. His exact directions were "Start off to your left, go right under the cliff and then right of the small band"...

The snow was good in itself, but it was a little thin on the ground. I have another movie of the soft stuff and my second (I think) turn I hit a rock, traverse right, get about another 5 turns in, hit 3 rocks on 3 turns in a row, and then give up Maybe I'll post it
