Snowbasin/Meat Bro pics from Monday (bandwidth intensive)

Well, I got a chance to play with my super-low-framerate camera monday with GT, MD9, and Meats. The good news is, the photos that it took are good, the bad news is that it's more like 1.5FPS than 2FPS... I know that's the difference between sucky and suckier, but yea... ugh. If you want great photos, the G6 is amazing, but don't count on taking lots of huck shots.

Also, I was a little indiscriminate in my use of auto levels... sorry if the colors are off.

So anyway, on to the photos!

This sign graces the entrance to the cirque traverse. A few days (week?) ago a boarder slid down the backside of demoisy and had to be roped back up by ski patrol. It's not bad on skis, though.

In this next series, MD9 is attempting to slide the narrow ribbon of ice down the rock face...

Hmm... maybe he's going to do it switch?

A little off balance, maybe, but hey, it is switch ice sliding!

Impact imminent... the last shot is pretty much just a cloud of snow with a ski tip poking out... no need to waste bandwidth. Overall a pretty ballsy thing to try, and MD9 turned out no worse for wear.

After sliding in close to check out the drop, Meats decided to sidestep out. A minute or so into it, and only a foot from where he started, the air looked a bit more appealing:

Once the landing zone was found to be soft and ideal for carcass-impact-dampening, MD9 and Meats plow back up to have another go.

GT40 fliming despite the brace, with the sock puppet watching from its pole perch.

MD9 decides to skip the ice slide and use the rock next door instead.

And the bases no worse for wear.

Meats decided against hiking up the rest of the way, so on our next swingby we start again with MD9:

I was a little over-enthusiastic with the zoom and you can't see the whole cliff, but oh well. The landing was stuck, but I don't feel like posting every single frame. Deal.

    Next up: Meats

Meats did his best to blend in with the background tree, but a little photoshop action brought him out of hiding, sort of.

Looks like a stuck landing, eh?

On our last trip down to the rock, Meats took his turn at being first.

    Lookin good...

    A little off center...

THUD! Almost looks like he's skiing neck deep aside from the lack of contrail and the pole hovering a foot from his hand.

MD9 with the last huck before we sprint to strawberry:

With that, we straighted down to the middle bowl gondola. After a long ride, we reached the top at 3:25pm. Strawberry closes at 3:30. At each turnaround point on the way over, we saw "strawberry closed" signs, but we knew the lift should be open for a few more minutes. MD9 made the decision to go ahead, figuring we can always radio GT at the base to come and pick us up from the access road if we miss the last car. One superfast straightline through lower strawberry later, we loaded up three cars before they started putting them away. Whew. At the top, the gates were all still wide open, so I headed over the "skiers only" traverse while MD and Meats hiked up to demoisy.

The light was amazing, though I didn't do a very good job of capturing it.

    MD9 coming down the Y.

    Meats finishing up.

The final huck of the day, courtesy MD9:

We called back and forth a bit, but until MD actually aired this I had no idea what he was going to do. Basically, if you make an arc out from where he is, just past the lower boulders on the left, that's where he went. I also forgot to push the "continuous" button and only got this one shot. I am a JONG.

Wow, musta needed a lot of speed to make that one work. Judging by the trees, it seems as if it's even flatter than it looks, and it looks pretty flat.

Nice pics, bp! I just assumed when I clicked on the thread they were by GT.

Hey BP, very fun shots. Thanks for shooting and posting them.

The Meat Bros didn't care if they went of the rocks, sideways or backwards. It's pretty fun to watch. MD9 really is happy to huck rocks all day. MOE is hucking bigger every week, and loving it. Basin's got lots of cliffs to play on.
I want a 6" travel 20lb MTB. I found the 20lb MTB, but only good for riders under 87 pounds.

    Ditto.

Nice work fellas. I'd love to hit some Snowbasin action soon. Lack of the hook-up on a ticket (and lack of funds) keeps me in the backcountry or milking it at The Canyons.

Nice shots. I enjoyed this TR! Always like to see pics of maggots hucking their meat!

I'm like: "oh crap" and my shoulder and hip that were probably going to connect with the rock first were like "you suck". And I was like "I know" and then my legs were like "you guys are idiots" and then they turned me around backwards and started to slide down the rock switch. At one point while sliding backwards I was able to bend my legs and push-off to get away from the rocks. It was nothing I had planned or tried to do or could recreate, but luckily it didn't end badly.

The next slide (on rock) worked out perfectly though.
