Granite Chief didn't suck today...until I blew my ACL, that kinda sucked.

So I hit up Squaw on the $39 dollar student ticket today. They opened up Granite Cheif, Emmigrant, and Headwall for the first time today. Got to GC right as they started letting people on. It was sick. 3 or 4 runs of fresh pow were had until it got mostly tracked out. Rockstar sighting of the day was Huckasoreass who was generally out ruling the mountain.
After that got played out, I moved on to Emigrant and hit up the funnel a couple of times. Sweet high speed turns with no moguls for once.
Finally I made my way over to Headwall and hit up North Bowl first. More cut up pow high speed turns. The next run I ran it out to the Sun Bowl rope line and got even more fresh there. I was feeling good so I went over to the tree chutes lookers left of Cornice II. I picked the steepest narrow one and straightlined it. As I was coming out of the chute (with a shitload of speed) I arced a big left turn to shed speed and hit a bump that sent me flying backwards down the hill. Somewhere in there I heard the dreaded pop sound and new even I was still tumbling the my right ACL was gone. After I stopped, I worked my way down to the main run under Cornice II and flagged down help. Sled evac off the mountain, a couple of hours in the clinic. Preliminary diagnosis, torn right ACL, minor segund (SP?) fracture.
So I guess I'm done for the season. Put one more on the gimp list. I guess now I can get those good grades next semester . I'll be back though, mark my words...

    That blows and blows.
Obviously there's the gimp central forum now, which should have a lot of info for you if you need it. You should be good to go by August or September, not that that helps you much now.
    Sorry, dude.

Sorry to hear it for sure. Two years ago I tore my LCL and had a major segund fracture, it was not fun. Sounds like yours isn't quite as bad, good luck with the recovery, work hard and it actually becomes kind of fun. (In the acheivement sort of way)

SON OF BITHC "#$@*@#$ GOD DAMN #!@!* KNEEES!!!

C -- I'll PM you my digits, feel free to give me a call anytime if you have any questions. And obviously, there's tons of info in the gimp forum now on all the different reconstruction methods, rehab, most questions, etc. You'll be back on a bike in approx a month from whenever you get your surgery...that's not so bad!! So you'll be able to get back to mountain biking this summer and will be able to rip on skis again next season.

(and whatever you do, don't go reading any of my drugged out depressive laments on the aspectjournal workshop forum...stay positive)

craptastic. sorry to hear it mang.

everybody else: (sorry to lecture) if you keep your hands in front of you, you will drastically reduce your chances of hurting your knees. Believe me on this one, focus on your hands, keep them in your field of vision at all times.
