    WWMD? Grad School Apps

    Dear Shmerham,

The deadline for the fall 2005 admission has been changed to January 15, 2005. Please, try to submit your application by this date. We understand the confusion with different dates available on th website, therefore if your application comes after January 15, 2005 but before February 1, 2005 it will still be considered.

Send it on time or take the extra time to fine-tune things? It's ready to go, and I have had my statement of purpose reviewed, but if I can get more reviewing done that would be better.

I leave for Utah thursday afternoon, so I either send it in (electronically) tommorow night along with 3 other apps or I wait until I get back on the 15th or sometime thereafter.

Note: the 15th is a saturday on MLK weekend.

My advice as someone graduating from business school in May. Take an extra hour or two before you leave and make revisions. The better it is, the better your chances.

Check, double check, triple check. You do not want any errors in this.

    Good luck.

Coming from a stranger: if you think it's finished and done well, how much would a bit of fine tuning help? Personally, I'd like to get it turned in and finished so that I would have the peace of mind of having it done, and be able to focus on other things. However, if you think it really needs a lot of work, then wait. Good luck btw. Grad school - that's awesome.

If you're sure about content, then it's time to check spelling and such. Do the following:

Go over every single written word of the application, from the essays to the personal information section. The easiest way to do this is to say every word out loud. Every word, your name and address included. It takes a while, but there are always some stupid little mistakes that your brain can just skip over. If you are speaking aloud it's easier to catch those mistakes.

I did this as my last step with my apps. Then I did it again because I was stunned to have found so many 'obvious' mistakes on what I thought were "completed" applications.

You should be able to do all the fine tuning you need before the 15th. Seriously, review every single word of everything that you're submitting, and have someone who's a good proofreader read it over too--they'll probably still catch some things you missed.
