    Surgery Thursday

Turned out my ortho got the correct diagnosis and the ER in Centralia got it wrong except for telling me to see my ortho. I have a quad tendon torn off it's moorings. Tomorrow Thorpe cuts me open and sews it back together. Six weeks with a brace to lock my knee straight followed by a good three months of work on getting range of motion and probably another three months (+ or -) to get the strength back. He would have to have a Powder Mag in the office that I had to read while waiting for my pre-op meeting. Guess theres no hurry to get bindings for my new demo Lhasas.

Ouch! sorry to hear about that, and hope it improves quickly enough to get some use out of those skis. If not, I could break them in for you...

Thanks for the offer, I'm hoping to get to use them by the end of the season. It might be tough to break them in without bindings though!

Ten days after surgery here I sit in the recliner/rocker with my knee locked in place with a brace. I still have another five weeks in the brace followed by PT. I wish I was more mobile but I'm not taking any chances.
I wasn't going to get into the rest of this but I guess I'll vent anyway.
I'm already out of sick leave and can't work until Dec or Jan. I can get some income from disability insurance in about a month but the med bills will be bad. Much worse than that was what happened the night before surgery. My wife Lori nearly died of kidney failure and infection. I had to call 911 and have an ambulance take her to the hospital. This is the fifth time shes been hospitalized this year and I thought she was going to die, it was very close. This is her third day in a convalescent center and while her kidneys have come back somewhat she is still in terrible shape. I haven't seen her since I got home from the ER that first night but we try to talk on the phone every day if she is feeling up to it, which is not often. I haven't seen my wallet since that day either. Not skiing this year is not really what I've had most on my mind as you might imagine. I do hope to see some ski movies and to play as many gigs as possible once I can get around without too much trouble. Hope everyone else here in gimp central heals up enough to get some turns in before too long.

Shit man, rough patch for sure. Do your best to keep your mood up and help your wife do the same, I imagine things will get better when she can come home with you.

Thanks zzz, had two bits of good news today. Shes having a pretty good day although they won't let her come home until she can walk on her own with her walker. Maybe another four days. I found my wallet too.
Talked to the ortho's office today and they don't want me to try driving yet but I can walk with crutches outside as long as I don't use that quad tendon. I'll find out more when I see him on Wednesday. After 11 days of being a couch potato or I guess a rocker/recliner recluse would be more accurate, I can feel how weak I've become. I really miss those three or four mile hikes with my dog in the woods four or five days a week that keep me in shape. She misses them at least as much since most of it is off leash and she loves to run in the woods and jump around in the creek.

Howie - wtf??? How did you tear that tendon? Hey, buddy, I was down seven or eight weeks braced straight on a weight bearing lockout. Roll with it, mang. If you don't have netflix, now's the time.

    heal up!

Hey Pat, I was at a music campout walking down by the Skookumchuck River with Kai, my Lab when my right foot slipped out and up on some wet grass, my left foot stayed planted and I went straight down. Hyperextended the left knee and heard a POP! I knew I was in deep shit. One of the guys who helped get me out was a ski patrol at Hoodoo and we both knew it wasn't good, plus I've read too many posts here about going down like that and hearing that pop as something broke loose.
Netflix eh, not a bad idea. I hope that new treatment you're trying works out for you.
