Careers that allow you to live somewhat off-the-grid?

I need to figure out a way to move back out west and not live on I-70 or in Denver or SLC. I am a country boy through and through. I REALLY love Southern/Central Colorado.

I just always wonder what people do that live in the remote parts of the state. Ranchers?

    Telecommuters?

I am looking to simplify as much as possible, but I also don't want to be dirt broke living in a trailer.

IT work seems to be fairly conducive to telecommuting. Maybe also look at oil and gas leasing?

Hmmmm. Oil and gas leasing? My family has been in oil, gas, and propane distribution for 65 years on the east coast. Would love to find a way to help expand the business AND not have to live in NJ forever.

Anything internet based where you can telecommute. Or become an assassin - those guys really have to keep it on the downlow.
