I will be skiing at Taos from Sunday 1/9 to Saturday 1/15.
Will any maggots be around?

Are there no Taos maggots?

Not on my trips over the past two years. Seems like a destination for a few maggots though.Originally Posted by SheRa

It'd be so cool to get a big crew down there in February. Like the third or fourth weekend...

The Yeti man and I spent some time down there. 99-03 for me, late 90's through 04 for him.
The hotel I worked at down at the resort had high speed, but no one i knew used any of the boards. I remember trying to rally some folks down there the last good season they had 02-03. Skied around with some Alta locals early dec that season, but didn't have anyone from the board come down and crash.
Too bad, cause we had a really nice pad that year, and I remember a 100 inch feb that season.
I remember durning that Feb meeting Oakden when he was travelling with some tv/film crew. Came home to a party at our house that night, we all partied really hard, made it back up to the resort in the morning for a foot and first chair, and the producers declared they were leaving!
They said the terrain/conditions were not good enough for them. Now this was the best shape the resort had been in many years, we had 100 inch base, and it was during that really good feb.
That was my first experience with a "rockstar" travelling with a film crew. The athlete had no say, or at least that day, as Ryan looked really disspointed to leave the resort as the first chair bell rang in the new day.
Cool kid, looks like it all worked out for him. But man did I empathise with him that day.
Yetiman and myself still know so people down there if one of you wants a tour guide.
or some good lines for the comp

Interesting story too. I would've been so frustrated in that kid's shoes.
I hadn't even looked at the comp schedule this year - just saw that Brett put it up. Feb 11-13 in Taos, but I had it in my mind to go to Steamboat over Valentines. Hmmmm.
Last year I skied at Crested Butte during comp time and watched the snow degrade. The last decent stuff was really on the qualifying day. It just got skied off.

Taos is def on my list. Just too much pow and too many cool unskied mountain tops between here and there to stomach the road trip just yet.

I like the sounds of this email that i got this morning:
Press Release-
January 5, 2005
Taos Ski Valley, NM Desert dry couldnt be farther from the truth when youre talking about Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico in the last 2 weeks. Almost 3 feet of snow has fallen in the last couple of weeks and forecasters are calling for continued snow from Friday through Sunday.
Todays storm total is already close to the two foot mark and there are no signs of stopping. Snow is expected to continue into the evening tonight and will clear tomorrow. Almost all of Taos famed steeps including the Ridge, are filled with powder hounds and more is opening each day. The conditions are exceptional for January in New Mexico says Bret Helenius, director of sales at Taos Ski Valley.
Last week left close to a foot of snow for holiday skiers to track up. Unusually moist snow fell which assisted in opening some terrain that was not previously open. The snow that fell had 20% moisture content as opposed the 4-5% we are used to said ski patroller Dave Mount.
