    Marmot Basin update...

    HOLY FUCKING SHIT BALLS!!!!!!

The last few days weather has been very Fernie like with a massive dumping of around 100 cms in the last 5-7 days or so. Skiing yesterday was heavenly. Boot top powder and you had no speed limit. Fun Fun Fun!!!! Fuck it I'm swearing again... It was fucking beautiful. Perfect for mid november.
Pow Pow everywhere but also very rocky as Marmot is located in the centre of a dry donut which is located in the middle of a giant boulder field. The first dump a few days ago happened when only the lower mountain was open so it was deep but a lot like skiing at Sunshine
Next dump had the upper mountain open which was the fun fun fun fucking good shit.

With the massive snowfall comes a little bad news as anything remotly steep went natually or with light control work. 100 cm dump and 0 cms sticking in the steep alpine where I love to be. Oh well. I have tasted faceshots in November...(not that faceshots you freaks)

When I was air commuting to work had a few exciting ones in Calgary including one bounced aborted landing...that shit is fucking scary x10. I hate it when the plane drops due to turbulance while taking off, fuck that shit...puts your stomache in your throat.

Hit Marmot for the morning today. As jetski said nuked all day yesterday and as the TGR snowfall things says 14" (35 cm's) since yesterday am. Upper mountain saw some overnight wind and was variable but fun. Lower mountain saw no wind and some fresh rope drops, spent many runs in Slash which is usually only good for 2 runs max. I guess with the upper mountain opening people forgot about the lower. Solid morning today and back to work for the afternoon.
Move along nothing to see here.

from MCR, not really our thread, but i figured it'd be posted in theirs anyways:

"The slope is in the Blackcomb Glacier area locally known as Corona, which is above you on the skiers right as you descend Blackcomb Glacier."

2kg charge on a slope that many, many people do without any sort of avalanche gear. All it takes is a 25 minute bootpack and a traverse around the back side. Expected with the snow the coast has received. The CMH vids were even better, before they were removed

Something of note from Kananaskis Trails Blog:

Fortress Ski Area. This winter organized cat skiing will be going ahead. People will be driven up in vans from the bottom of the road. Unfortunately, the road will remain closed to public vehicles.

Yeah this was my initial thought, I've been there I don't know how many times without any gear. Sobering.

Seconded. It's a bitch of a lap but well worth it. A combination of deep snow and minimal traffic is a recipe for a very good day.

KH had rain about a 1/3 of the way up covered with some wet and heavy on Sunday. It was like skiing on butter. Usually it's snow at Louise's elevation and it's location on the east side of the divide.

From Showers report and the expected temps I don;t think rocks are what you'll hit ( thou that is always possbile) I would want some thing with good edges for the lower mountain. I'm expecting cruckie down low.

Anybody know if Kicking horse will be good for Friday? Wanna go but a bit worried as I am imagining a huge ass line and less then stellar conditions.

^it probably won't be worth going to with all the crowds and less than stellar conditions. Probably better off waiting and people will be over the whole opening day thing and won't be as busy, and hopefully it would have snowed more by then....
