We want to do it again next year, but we really need participation from all of you guys this year to get it off the ground. This season's contest is not limited to footage from this year- go back into your archives and pull out your sickest stuff. Or best beaters.

You guys have some of the most epic terrain in the world, and you've been keeping the stoke going in these threads for years. Lets see some good edits.

OLD plans.... from years ago.... you know when resorts wanted to stick lifts everywhere.... before the more expensive detatchables came along.....

Will never happen now.... but would be interested to know where they had planned to stick the top station?

i have no problem with a fixed grip chair if it gets me to new terrain ( or there easier). Dive proper would be the only place i could see them putting a top stating and building a platform but holy shit that would be a tonne of work .

I would be willing to contribute to an edit, I probably don't have enough quality footage on my own to do it. Some things I can think of from this season that might be useful additions:

KH: the teamwork episode- good footy of mags skiing (theteo, mruta)
KH slackcountry- more of the same (2stix, robnow)
KH march-april- some decent pov beaters at the end
KH: one very floaty run- probably the best-lit deep pow I've caught all season

and from last season, "Kicking Horse terminator 1 and 2" is the best footage I've taken, in terms of great light and also deep pow. I was even more of a gaper last year though...

You can find all aforementioned videos here:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/angrysas...1?feature=mhee

If anybody wants to pull all this together, great. If my footage is something you want to include, even better. I've still got all of it, in 960p, 30 or 48 fps, uncompressed straight from the cam.

The original plan for goats eye was for there to be 3 lifts but that was before High speed quads. As well there was a plan to but but a double chair in bye-bye bowl but that was made obsolete by the great divide high speed quad. The picture I remember for the skican magazine from the early 80's had the unload station for a dive chair about 100m below the col, but those are 25-30 year old plans. The chair on Wawa ridge was to be called Medowlark but can't remember the location of the top or bottom terminals.

There have been many plans for an second gondola or high speed quad out of the parking lot for days when the main gondola is down. Its not really need for capacity reasons. One was to go straight up to goats eye which is probably the cheapest option. Another plan was for there to be a second parking lot a couple hundred meters up stream of the back parking lot and having a high speed quad go up the valley with only one turning station with the unload station being around the flats on about the 3 third angel tower. It sounds as if the current talks are at a very preliminary stage.

The other lift projects that I heard about were putting a t-bar to the top of goats eye and replacing the Teepee town chair with a shorter quad for windy/whiteout days. Both are probably very low priority.

I kinda feel like a gaper for not knowing all this stuff.
They'll work fine with DH boots, but if your boots are a proper fit (i.e. tight) you might be very uncomfortable. Try them and see if it works for you, but I'd start with something short so you don't find yourself a long way from getting out of your boots in a painful situation.
Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season

Hey everyone, I've been a long-time lurker on this thread so thought it's about time to jump in here with both feet. I've started doing some short day tours around the Banff area, hopefully building towards a bigger backcountry season next winter. We got out to Quartz Ridge on Sunday, an amazing weather day and surprisingly good snow considering the temperature.

The May 7 deadline sucks....there's still a full month of the best skiing to be had after that.

LOL...bring on the snowfencing to hold any hope of keeping snow on that wind blown piece of fetch zone.

    _______

I have been shooting primarily using a handheld this season, although I am sitting on some pretty fucking deep POV footage from KH and some good handheld footage. I've got a good chunk of summer that I was planning on using for editing to give me some thing to do at work so the deadline pretty much makes it impossible for me as I don't want to throw some mediocre piece together, and i'll be too busy skiing til the end of May to try squeezing in rushed edit time. Perhaps we can put a team together next year and make something of sick non-standard quality.

Fuckin ichiban and frozen peas Lamothe. Thats all you need. And just to add to t2c's advice: You gotta be really careful not to get peas in your sleeping bag when your trying to get the peas in a cup in your sleeping bag. peas in sleeping bag = bad timez.

Above freezing temps at KH 's Dogtooth snow plot (2060 m) for the past 24hrs. Hope it cools off in time for tomorrow's storm.

Who's at KH for the final three days of lift ops?

Wawa ridge would be nice terrain for SSV, mostly fairly mellow for the punters, shady, treed. I bet they would happily hand back some gnar terrain in exchange for Wawa (Eagle basin for example maybe?).
Capacity of the on-hill lifts is greater than the gondola so it could be argued that capacity is limited by the gondola. Plus the huge bottlenecks on busy days & high wind days etc.
Because its been many years since SSV has had any sort of approved management plan the only development allowed has been 'like for like'. The only reason they were able to replace Strawberry with a quad is that hill's capacity would not be increased because capacity is effectively set by the gondola. I heard rumours they were fined some years ago for increasing retail space without approval...

If they expanded the parking lot upstream of the current back lot it would be in the Borgeau Left (under the ice climb) slide path, it would make more sense to expand out or downstream towards to the highway.

Here's a little stoke for you folks. This is my first video ever and it wasn't exactly a powder day either, but I edited it best I could. Nowhere as gnarly as other stuff I've seen here, but you gotta start somewhere.

After watching it a couple times, I think I even have some ideas on how to improve my technique. I noticed I sometimes look down instead of looking ahead, and I need to keep the skis closer together I think.

That's the biggest reason I got my gopro last year- to check out my technique and improve, had the mount pointing almost straight down (could see my knees 90% of the time). As it turns out, CSIA approved skiing has really not much to with anything fun. Doesn't matter how good your form is, it doesn't help with straightlining moguls or hucking shit or anything. So now I just have it mainly so that if I eat shit and fuck myself up, there's a record of it.
Looking a couple turns ahead definitely helps a lot in moguly or cruddy shit, I still have to force myself to do it, but once I do it's so much easier.

Nice video, pretty decent drops considering the landing.

Anybody from Banff heading to the Lake tomorrow, and will be leaving the hill by noonish ( I need to work in the pm) that has space in the car? Wife needs the car tomorrow, but if predictions come true overnight, don't really want to miss out on the morning. Gas money and Karma points on offer. Thanks....

Thanks, but I only have a Lake pass, and it's tomorrow morning I'm looking for. Reread my post and edited it since it was a little confusing on the noon part.

Have some guests from Oregon so not sure if we'll end up at the Lake or at SSV but if we go to the lake and 1 of us plans on coming back earlier then will let you know.

Have another item to play forward. This time it's a Petzl Reverso. Yours for free. You can only have it if you already know what it is and will use it. Not responsible if you kill yourself or some one else with it, user manual online but if you need one then maybe it's not a good idea to have it lol.

Maybe we'll actually start getting good solid freezes and some corn for non pow days after this pissing rain ends and some clear cold nights. Heard it's raining to Goats.
