Cool 11/9/03: First Pow day of the season....

And it sure does feel good . Thanks to an inside tip, got to break out the fatties and skins for 1,500 vert of untracked boot deep fluff today. It's amazing what windloading can do with a below average snowpack! It's always good to get that first powder day out of the way, now I can relax a little more

I love getting that first powder day out of the way too.

Hey, at least I got to practice switch turns down a blue in between waiting 30 min in the liftline.

I tipped over my beer the other night but it was hard to tell if it spilt to the inside or outside.

It’s so quiet, it’s so cool, it’s so cold

    Congrats,
I think you are the first one to get powder in the Denver area, besides those that went out to Wolf. Green with envy.

Had some pow today at Mammoth. It was good. Rocks are still harder than the NateR's ass.

I hiked up to the top of Powderhorn at Solitude this morning. Snow was falling and slightly breezy. It was good, but I'm glad I used the rock skis.

    Pure bliss...

Standing on top of that beautiful snowfield I was wondering if I could ski it like it deserved. Mmmmm, the first turn told me everything was just fine. Sink and rise...

It was deeper than boot deep though - closer to knee deep, up top anyway. Well worth the major freaking core shot I took. So much better than anything lift served. Good weather, good snow, good friends, good exercise. A day very well spent.

We weren't the first ones to get it though. A friend of mine bootpacked up there last Friday and told us about it. There've gotta be other wind created places like that around the state now. Scouting is in order.

I bet a lot of the pics won't come out. I drained the battery leaving the flash on. We'll see.

    I love your skis, man.

I measured the vert with my altimeter, buddy. And the pitch was quite decent. Judged solely on my personal stoke level.

Excellent work, very nice to see someone is out there skiing. I spent my weekend bouldering in a t-shirt. Not that I'm complaining, actually my new addiction to climbing has helped ease the pain of the lack of snow somewhat, but I'll never stray from my first true love. On my way to work this morning I saw snow on the mountains and thought to myself I really should get up there and check that snow out, something must be skiable. Perhaps next weekend?

I don't know if you guys are kidding or what, but there are no 65 degree ski runs in Colorado. There's some steep runs at Jackson but their not 65 degrees.

    is right.

This is what happens when you lose your history...

edit - I am curious how you can make such a sweeping statement about Colorado? Have you climbed all our mountains?

Your "mountains"? I haven't climbed all the "mountains" in your colorado but probably many more than you. Whatever.

I'm still confused. I saw the link someone posted. A lot of runs have short sections which are steep, but are the others infering that you had skied a run that was "65 degrees."
