where is this $7 million number coming from? Is that just the money coming from Quik to hold the event? Does that include the other companies hosting parties, art openings, movie premieres, beach front property rentals, hotel rooms, company dinners, transportation, slices of pizza, "I love NY" shirts, statue of liberty figurines. Shit, I'd assume that each one of these pros being able to bring their wives/families to NYC (instead of some shed in the jungle) will bring in more money than the prize purse. I'm just trying to make the point that spending money in America (i.e. NYC & San Fran) as opposed to foreign countries is better for the economy. Can you really argue that?

Sorry for the back to back posts, just saw this. I had the opportunity to share an empty lineup with Dayne in Mainland Mex at a 300-400+ yard flawless sand bottom point break. We rolled up to the break, the first wave I saw him get was the most memorable wave I've ever seen in my life, including anything I've personally witnessed from Machado, Che Stang, Taylor Knox, Kolohe Andino, etc. (obviously clips from movies excluded).

This wave is like trestles but the longest wave mere mortals can imagine, he went fins free 7-8 turns in a row without pumping once for speed. Alley oops off the top, if you want to get an idea of how fins free, and then straight back up again. Absolutely flawless wave with flawless surfing, best thing I've ever witnessed. This was on the very inside, last 30-40 yards of the wave.

I'm in Brooklyn now. Dont see pro surfers out on the Mall. Will check Greene Point this evening.

Id much prefer to see a contest in Maine. Or even Rhode Island. Beach break. Meh. Reefs and points. Much better.

But then again, I rarely watch contests, so.... carry on.

^fantastic, that proves I am not a pro ho. Obviously, I would know how to spell Dane if I was a true jocksniffer

Since surf photos never ruined a surf thread, this is the 'dayne' I'm referring too

Just found this tidbit online... this year the attendance was 1 million.

"Spending at the nine-day event adds $21.5 million to the Orange County economy and $16.4 million in Huntington Beach. It is attended by nearly 500,000 people."

“First of all, I’d like to say (an the ASP are going to fine me) ‘cuz I don’t want to be a part of this dumb f***ing wannabe tennis tour. All these pro surfers want to be tennis players. They want to do a halfway cutoff. How the f*** is somebody who’s not even competing against our caliber of surfers ahead of 100 of us on the one world ratings. They’ve never been here. They’ve never f***ing made the right to surf against us, but now we’re ranked upon them. Come on now. That’s Bullshit. That’s why I ain’t going to these stupid contests no more. This is my last one because FTW, my sponsors is here and I just tell it like it is. This is my last one and I don’t like tennis. I don’t like the tour… Who gives a f***? You know what I mean?”

Taj vs Melling right now is an insane heat. Both are throwing air reverses like nothing and then working it all the way into the inside, ramps everywhere
