    Checking in from Mammoth

Dumping and more on the way. This morning was excellent in some spots and a few inches on boiler plate in others. Crowded and crazy in town and on the mountain. Hope to see some mags on the mountain.

    Powder Day...Mammoth TR

I never made it over to Main or the Mill...just Rode Lincoln all day...very schweet, very plush...total chubville. The Avys were tasty...they never let me down--1,2,3 or any of the halves were prime. Damn I am glad this storm finally hit, I have been waiting for it for 3 weeks...The stashes in ######## were more-or-less untouched as usual all morning.

I am Dave's youthful legs and heart. I was possessed.

    Great powder day.

Only bummer of the day were the chair closures in the early afternoon. Winds kicked up around 1:30pm and closed down ch22 and ch25, then briefly ch16 and ch4 (both reopened 30-45min or so later)...this created two awful ugly throngs of x-mas tourists in line for the remaining chairs (new17 and old8)...still lots of goodies in the lower trees between 16-17 and skiers left of 8.

But the winds, double edged sword that they are, did their magic again...Along with all the new Ullr dandruff falling, they were covering up and erasing all signes of tracks, and knocking all the snow off the trees and onto the slopes. For a brief period just before they closed 22&25, it was epoch freshies all over the place as the winds were wiping the slate...visibility was white-out nil at times, but you'd just have to park leeward side of a tree and wait out a billowy gust (some were WAG-->100-120km/h), then rip down through the playgrounds of clean renewed virgin plush.

Milk down into the cargos again.

    Yeah Baby!

Glad I broke out the new board today--it performed marvelously, handling all the whoop-de-whoops in and out of the trees on every run, saving my back leg a bit of an extra workout...

The weather is great on the hill, but not on the roads...allow for some extra cautious drive time if you come up...The drive up it took me 7hrs, it took me an extra two hours to make it to my fav little Sierra Anthill--the roads were heinous from Little Lake (yes, LIttle Lake had about 6cm on the ground) to Big Pine (BION were R2 from Lone Pine to just south of Big Pine) then again got gnarly halfway up the Sherwin Grade, were the roads were R2 again all the way to Mammoth. Fuckin white knuckler--it was tough to keep up a 30mph pace w/o driving off the road which was Sierra Cement compacted to ice. In town roads are still ice with idiots from LA are sliding everywhere in their useless SUVs.

With all the work that the wind is doing right now as I type...Tomorrow is going to be primo fine, and I Hope this keeps it up thru NYE...bros and chickadees: GET YOUR ASSES ONTO THE SLOPES.

    peace,
    BS.

(if anyone wants to hook up for some turns over the next 3 days, pm me...I will keep checking in here at the ML Library)

And holy shit, it is here.

    D-E-E-P.

Some LA tourists complaining that the snow is to deep...Too deep in some spots? No way, mang. Put the bindings all the way back in the last holes...Point it, bend your knees, lean back, and shazaam!

    Wow. The weather is here...

I have been car-camping in town and my truck is buried, no kidding. The snow is past my doors...another possible meter to come down tonight...

At one point today I stopped to take a few pictures in the trees (lower Viva neighborhood), I had to get off my board to see how deep it really was...it was past my waist--that was on Lower Lincoln, imagine how deep it is in say, Upper Dry or the Noids, especially with the wind howling in NE swirls...When the top opens next Tuesday or Wednesday, it is going to be WTFO!

Only bad is that the mtn is being cautious again with all the kooks running amuk. Ch22 never went today and most of the mtn was closed (cept ch8) by 1pm...ML is a zoo, busses are packed, SUVs with chains (no4wd) all over the place, the theater is sold out for the night (already) and Vons' shelves look like an evacuation was happening...but it was amusing to watch people trying to push shopping carts full of groceries thru the snow-spanked parking lots. Need to get Snowman to shoot some video of all those dolts and post it on his webpage...

If you cannot (or will not) make it up this week, keep watchiong the weather for next week and select a prime sick day to use...

This storm has been HUGE. And it is still happening...

    peace,
    BS.
