    Arrow Utah Partial TR

EDIT: See new thread for a continous read without the spray thrown in. Much easier to get through that way. Link to new and imporved thread here: Utah Trip Report Version 2.0

No pics yet, because I own neither a digi cam or a scanner. A friend of mine who was there has lots of pics to scan, but he's in Canada skiing, so they will come later on. For now, the written word is all I have to convey my Utah trip to the maggot collective. Enjoy.

12/11- Wake at 3:00am EST to catch a 7:00 flight from Newark, about 1.5 hours from our house. Sleep did not come easily the night before, although the forecast for my week was looking rather bleak, thoughts of blower pow and face shots danced through my head. It ended up being only 2.5 hours of sleep, but no matter, a ski trip was soon to be underway. We met up with friends of ours in the airport and ended up sitting near them on the plane. Once we arrived in SLC, they headed north to Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole, where they were met with crust and later dust on crust. We headed east to Park City.

Since we arrived in SLC at about 10:15, we were able to ski that same day, for free nonetheless. We were staying about 250 yards from the Deer Valley base, so we decided to ski there. The mountain was a pleasant surprise. If you look past the people in Bogners with snooty attitudes, there are some goods to be found in the trees. We found knee to thigh deep snow in perfectly spaced pines in the Empire Canyon area. An auspicious beginning to a trip that would sadly be plagued by high pressure and injury. Relaxing in our hot tub after skiing, we crashed early, heading to bed by 7:30. 11.5 hours of sleep later, we awoke to head toward Big Cottonwood Canyon and Solitude Mountain Resort.

You sprayed and sprayed and sprayed about coming to Utah, and then skied Deer Valley?

I skiied Deer Valley for free. If you get to ski any Park City mountain for free, why not pick the most expensive one. I skiied 8 Utah mountains in 8 days. Also, the afternoon at Deer Valley was basically my first day on skis except 4 or 5 runs at Gore over Thanksgiving. There aren't many places better to get used to skiing. Was it my favorite Utah mountain, hell no, was it my least favorite, no, those honors go to next door PCMR.

I agree. If I had to choose between Deer Valley and Park City, I'd do deer valley. That said, I can't say I've ever found myself in that situation.

If a 15 year old needs a keyboarding class these days, isn't it kind of like remedial math?

I cant type gud on a regular keyboard as I am usd to a laptop. SO givve him a freakin break.

Punanai, you did not even show, so pipe down. He is not a bad skier at all, epecially for 15.

Pick on someone your own age. I never even made it on Sunday due to unforseen jello shots till I was seeing pink or red or somethin.

You all would be jealous as hell that he was here for eight days if it had snowed like we all would have liked.

    You be nice.

I had a hard time moving back to regular keyboards from the split "natural" versions... I can still only type 80WPM on my laptop, but oh well.

I can type them all out at once if the ideas were in my head. I have to mull over each day, recreate each scenario at every mountain. I don't want my TR's to sound like they were created by an automaton, I want them to have feeling to them. That takes time to craft, at least for me.

No worries to anyone who ripped on me, just remember to chalk it up to bad karma the next time it's supposed to dump at your home hill and doesn't.

Good tr, but this is funny, is this really pcmr's fault that you couldn't ski the trees?

Chest deep snow! Damn, I missed that!

I'd really love to try Brighton. Since I had no idea where the hell I was we ended up driving to Brighton/Solitude in search of Snowbird but at least got so see some splendid sights. It sure is beautiful in those hills.

You're right, I wasn't questioning that, there are some nice tree shots hidden throughout the place though if you know where to look. Was just poking a little fun at glade for saying the trees were too tight to ski for him and that's why PCMR sucked. Sorry, glade wasn't trying to shit in your thread.

Nice, Glade! Glad you had fun in the hive! Maybe a bit more snow next year would help!
