You know the irony of the situation is that when I was 23 I up and joined the Air Force because I thought it would be good motivation to start school since all I was doing was skiing and working at ski resorts and for some reason I thought that was bad. Now all I want is to be out of the Air Force and start skiing again. But it'll be 3-4 times I have been skiing in two seasons and now my sweet ski skills have atrophied to the point where I am going to be the one flailing on the High T talking shit about how I would totally throw a misty 10 off of Germ Rock if the light wasn't so flat even though it's a bluebird day.

But I just want you all to know that as all you rippers are on your way to a stash near High Boy that absolutely no one but yourselves knows about, and I get in your way. Go ahead and push me over and tell your friend to stab me in the back with their pole as my face lays in the snow, because... I understand, this shit is serious business. With all this talk of global warming the powder days might not happen for much longer.

I agree with you, but if you're in Catherine's it is get sort of flat towards the Supreme lift, same goes for East Devil's Castle (especially the High Apron). In Christmas 2003, Supreme was epic - fall line in the trees. so sweet. But other areas in Alta like Yellow Trail or Greeley Bowl don't have much traffic. If you want to do the High Traverse, hit it about noon or shortly after (or after 3:00), but that all depends - usually, the traffic is not that bad. Have you considered Wildcat area? It can be crowded at times, but not as bad as the HT.

    Sarcasm, dude... sarcasm...

Then again, maybe your comment is a sarcastic comment on his sarcastic comment.... I dunno... I ain't so smrt.

I hate seeing people who think they own the mountain disrespect anyone else - the rippers hassling the gapers on the High T are positively worse then even the little bratty Racer Groms who think it's just fine to duck liftline ropes, ski over other people's skis and cut into the liftlines.

We were (and some of us still are) gapers. I hate to see anyone (from the rippers to the most rediculous Texan gapers out there) have a lousy time skiing. I love seeing others find the joy in the sport that I find in the sport.

I've even gone seriously out of my way for no real good reason to get some random touron to have a good time on the hill - i.e. dragged 'em out to a lesser known groomer on the hill that I know they'd like, stopped to coax/coach 'em through a slightly steeper part of a run that might be out of thier ability, give a snowboarder stuck on a traverse a pole-whip, etc... In the process, I've met some pretty cool (albiet non-skier) people. It's all about spreading the stoke, no matter what the skier's ability is.

If you don't want them to be beaters, let them come away from the mountain with a smile, a positive experience, and a desire to get at it again.

Yesterday I was pushed off the high traverse by a determined young woman. I made my way down, trying to convince myself I had only lost my balance, but ultimately concluded I was now the biggest of beaters. After I made it to the bottom the liftie made me join a group of 3 that was about to load, but was two full groups ahead of me. So after tangling skis, poles and squeezing my way through I finally made it through the wall of people just in time for the chair. On the way up I had a pbr and listened to a group complain about "feeling bumps underneath" and flat light, I only mention it because I overheard more than one of these comments. Seemed like asking a bit much given the generous amounts of fresh snow. Granted it was president's day weekend, but after few more laps of roller derby, and taking orders from lifties, I realized how uninspired I was to be at Alta. I think I'm in the market for a new pass next season.
That is unless I can find that woman and convince her marry me.
