    AK to CA

I'm moving from Alaska to Southern California in the next few weeks. I'm definitely going to miss the snow and many options for skiing that Alaska has to offer, and next winter will probably be pretty rough being away from it all. So, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on places between Alaska and California that might still be worth skiing on my way south. I will be travelling roughly between June 10-20, and would love to get some skiing in if there's anywhere that will still have enough snow for me along the way. let me know.

The PNW got a TON of snow in April, and I have word that the eastern Sierras are melting fast. Kicking around a few days in the northern states would probably be the best plan.

Yep. BC, WA, OR, Perhaps Northern Idaho. If all else fails you can always ski the Volcanoes in the PNW on your way down. Shit, you could hit many of them on your way down the coast. Post up a TR if you do.

Funny, because my girlfriend and I are moving from here in Ca, up to Ak! What part of alaska are you moving from? We are planning on moving to Girdwood. We are planning on arriving around the 9th of June and still haven't found a place to live yet.. Let me know if you know of anything!

Back on topic, the eastern sierra around Bridgeport - Mammoth is waaaaaay fat right now. The Dana plateau is worth taking a look at out of Lee Vining. Just turn right to go over Tioga Pass (120 west). The road may even be open to the Yosemite gate by then, which would be by far the best option. PM me if you want more details!

if you want lift access, Whistler will have glacier skiing every day until the end of July.. upload at 11am and ski until 3pm; 7th heaven should still have a ton of snow for cruising or there's the rad kickers and park they build on the glacier.
if you want a wicked hiking day, I'd say head up to Heliotrope Ridge on Mt. Baker, or just drive to the snow around the resort at Heather Meadows/Artist Point. PNW's going to have snow for a long time.. should be a wicked summer!

a recent tr from the eastern sierra. tahoe, where most resorts are approaching or surpassing 800" this year, just got another two feet counting what's falling right now. ALL the norcal through pnw volcanoes will be firing (that would be catastrophic, huh?). mammoth will be open through 4th of july.
i'll be skiing if you want to tour in the lassen-sonora zone.

Shasta and Lassen should still in good shape, as will the Tahoe area sierra, but the east side sierra will still be epic. Mammoth will offer lift service through 7-4.

Where in soCal are you headed.

You should go to the PNW because they have mountains, something Tahoe doesn't have.

right across the lake on the southeast shore; monument, job's and her sister all have 5,000'+ descents. no scuba required.

but seriously, you can't really miss anywhere from bc down to the eastside. it's all good this year.

My uncle just came back from a trip to the eastern sierras, where he saw the snow level drop a foot in a week. They do have a TON of snow to start with, but it seems to be melting fast. Though, it looks like you guys just got hit with a refresher storm (which is here right now.. woot woot!).

he lies a lot. for starters, there's no such range as the sierras.
sure a foot might have melted around 8,000', but up in couloirville things are just getting ripe. the road to nirvana still doesn't open for (how long)?

Wow... sierra/sierras? Take the stick out of your butt. He was further south than Tahoe, IIRC. Not sure if that makes a difference. Glad to hear it isn't as bad as he made it sound.

it's my one pet peeve. the title of the eastside thread (Eastern Sierras 2010-11: The Eternal Stoke) keeps me awake at night.
if everyone started calling it Asspen, folks would get a stick in their butt about that too (or maybe not).

the east side refers generally to areas from tioga pass southward, although areas just north (twin lakes, virginia lakes) seem to count too. the mountains there tend to be 3-4k higher than tahoe.
