Well, maybe you get more than you think.
Modern architecture (as in the capital M - Modern) was exactly that. I guess we can leave the Guggenheim out, the big wavy piece of titanium dog shit, but it stands for the other two buildings which are the Phillip Exeter Library and Barcelona Pavilion, which are fairly notable Modern (again, the style, not the "age") buildings. This is incredibly over simplifying it, but it was essentially a mix tape between the industrial revolution and craftsman style building methods and a rejection of history.
70's and 80's brutalism was the bad form of these construction types, think Hoover dam meets Henry VIII in the subway for some bareback man sex.
