I just got TIVO!!!!![]()
Welcome to the world of Tivo. You will no longer be tied down to the TV to watch the shows you want. You will no longer need to sit through commercials. You will no longer need to watch summer re-runs cause you missed a show earlier in the year. But, MOST importantly, you will now think that shows last 20 min. and 40 min., NOT 30 and 60 min.
Be careful- watching a non-recorded show is frustrating. You will find yourself hitting the FF button, and it doesn't work.
Again, welcome to the new world.

Which one did you get? I'm going Tivo hunting tonight for my dad's gift.
WHat's going on here? Are we all just going to plop our fat asses in front of the TV from now on?![]()

BTW-
The greatest part of Tivo, for me, is that I get to watch LOST every wed.
I play Ultimate Frisbee every wed. night from 7-10, and I would miss this show if not for Tivo.
P.S.- No one should miss this show. It is the best thing on tv right now.

Your girlfriend gave me a "HUGE" gift as well. (but it wasn't TiVo!!)
With TV you just sit there and it tells you what to think - with pot you might actually end up with a clean house and have some really interesting revelations.Originally Posted by phUnk

I never knew that. My wife and I could use a toke or two at our house right now if this is true. The big question is do you end up throwing shit away you didn't intend to and put things away in places they will never be found?Originally Posted by MOHSHSIHd

I got my girlfriend a TiVo--the 80-hr one--for Chirstmas too! She loves it! It was a little tricky setting up the whole deal without a phone line though. Now we no longer miss any Jon Stewart, South Park, Nature and Nova episodes. Why are Nature and Nova always on at some ridiculous hour?
Plus, if you saw South Park's Critter Christmas episode last week--for us that episode alone was well worth having a TiVo around.
How can TiVo STILL be losing money?
P.S. We'll be monitoring our BMIs for any post-TiVo changes.![]()
If you own a television, you are only hurting yourself by not owning a tivo. This machine provides maximum television efficiency, freeing up valuable time for more worldly pursuits.
For those of you that don't like television, that's fine. I would argue that it is difficult to learn anything outside of American politics, Paris Hilton & Kobe vs. Shaq from American media. Nice to get outside perspective from the good people @ BBC every so often. I might be one of a dying breed that enjoys a news broadcast.
I think that there are enough vices among the people here that nobody should crap on TV. I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure that 28 minutes of Seinfeld is healthier than plying yourself with tequila and wine coolers.
*That said, I whole-heartedly promote both pursuits.

TiVO is locing money because it's spending a ton on advertising and becuase the box itself is a loss leader. They don't actually start making money on a subscription until a few months in.
They'll make a bit of money, but it's likely other big companies will come in and eat the market once TiVO has made it big enough to intrest them.
It will either go the cell phone model, where different providers lose $$ to get you going and then make up for it with service fees and penalties (current model) - or it will stop being a device and simply be a software/service/interface for digital media content that you deploy with whatever your own hardware is and simply download through whatever pipe you get your internet from (Mark Cuban's model - also in line with media center PCs and shit).Originally Posted by joshbu
