    Getting To The Resort FAST.

This would be my weapon of choice - my toy for this week. Audi RS6 Plus Avant. 480bhp, all-wheel drive, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and a top speed in excess of 190mph.

Unfortunately, drive it at speed and it does in fuel at a rate of 12mpg. So, that's fifty gallons to get me to La Grave at £3.75 per gallon giving a total of £188 each way or $731 for the round trip.

I'll think I'll dawdle in this...

Do you realize that you've just posted an admission of ignorance so breathtaking that it disqualifies you from commenting on any political or economic threads from here on out?

All done in house at quattro GmbH. Uprated ECU and two additional radiators tucked in by the intercoolers.

    Drool.......

Both Manual and Turbo, you could mod that thing out to over 1000 hp fairly easily. Awesome investment, if you can make it work Roo, you should soooo buy it. (considering his reserve isn't sky high, which I bet it is)

Wow...is it a test mule or are they offering that upgrade to willing customers?

RS6 = killing it softly (for the unsuspecting)

Are they still making the US RS6 sedan? I don't see it on the Audi USA site...

This is a better choice in Canada:
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

I don't think they're offering the upgrade, but this car is in series production (999 car run) and in the UK it retails for a princely £66,675. Here's a review I wrote for a website that contains the main facts about the car (they don't like too much opinion).

When is it going to end? The constant game of one upmanship waged between Audi and their German rivals BMW and Mercedes may have kept us entertained as they cudgel each other with ever more powerful executive cars but are any of these vehicles really relevant in this day and age? Audi contend that their latest projectile, the RS6 Plus Avant, is a whole lot more than the temporary victor in a pointless competition of macho futility.
Audi bill the RS6 Plus as the fastest and most powerful Audi road car ever released to UK customers. At £66,675 it’s not cheap, costing a good deal more than a decently specified Porsche Carrera 4S, but then it will leave the 911 with a receding view of its quad exhaust pipes should both drivers simultaneously bury the right hand pedal. With a 30bhp power boost over the standard RS6, this version generates a whopping 480bhp and will accelerate to 60mph in just 4.6 seconds. This sort of power is well in excess of anything that a Ferrari 360 or a Porsche 911 Turbo can manage, being bested only by the heaviest of hitters from Mercedes and the genuine premier league supercars.

A few tweaks to the engine control unit are responsible for most of the power and torque increases although two additional radiators behind the intercoolers help to feed cold, dense air into the combustion charge. The RS6 Plus isn’t just a crude power up version however, as there are also uprated brake discs. These perforated rotors are sheathed behind enormous 19-inch five spoke cast aluminium wheels. RS6 Plus buyers can also order sports suspension as a no cost option. With variable damping, firmer springs and dampers and a ride height a full 10mm lower than the original RS6, making the big wheels and liquorice strip tyres fill the wheelarches even more convincingly. Some executive expresses disguise their power subtly. The RS6 Plus isn’t one of them.

The sports exhaust system can be identified by matt black oval tailpipes. It’s likely that you’ll hear it a long time before seeing it, the pressure-optimised system amplifying the V8 engine’s natural throb. Exterior trim components and the Avant’s roof rails are also finished in matt black, giving the car a purposeful look. Inside there are aluminium pedals and a numbered plaque denoting the car’s place in the RS6 Plus’ 999 build run. Black leather seats combine with carbon fibre trim strips to ensure good taste – no wood on display here.

Who on earth would possibly need an estate car that, with the speed restrictor removed, could likely nudge 200mph? If you can afford to blow £66,675 on cars, you could buy a better estate car in the shape of a Volvo V70 and a better sporting car with a BMW M3 and still be left with change. Even Volvo’s 300bhp V70 T5R estate is only slightly slower than the RS6 Plus and weighs in around £30,000 cheaper. It soon dawns on you what this car is about. It embodies a no-compromise attitude that few can match. If you want the fastest and most capable estate car bar none, this is it and you’ll need to pay handsomely for the privilege. No ifs, buts, maybes, fudges or qualification. The RS6 Plus is the real deal.

Fast Audis have oft been praised for their grip and go, but have fallen down in terms of subtlety. Brakes that drop anchor as soon as you dab the pedal, steering that feels as if there’s a blancmange in between rack and pinion and electronic control systems with all the subtlety of Graham Norton have all made keen drivers a little cool towards many hot Audis. The RS6 series has long been evidence that Audi, as its Latin moniker would suggest, listens to customer feedback. The steering is a revelation. At first it feels trademark Audi, using weight as a cipher for genuine feel, but if you can drive through that initial feeling of detachment you’ll be rewarded with a helm that’s direct without being nervy. The brakes seem the opposite of traditional Audi stoppers, a little slow to react in the first inch or so of pedal travel. After this, the front eight piston calipers pinch hard on those drilled and ventilated discs and offer some serious stopping power.

The major element in the car’s chassis engineering is the Dynamic Ride Control. This connects the dampers diagonally (eg front right, rear left) via pipes to a valve that contains a gas reservoir. When the car is compressed onto all four dampers, a piston expands the gases in the system making the ride a touch softer for increased comfort. When the front dives, the rear squats or there’s lateral roll, the system firms the dampers up, stiffening the ride. Although this system is purely hydro-mechanical, it’s backed up by a suite of electronic control systems that allow the skilful driver a margin for adjusting the car’s line on the throttle without totally killing the subtlety.
Fitted with a five-speed automatic, the RS6 makes big numbers little effort. The engine is a gem, the 40-valve Audi 4.2-litre V8 putting in sterling service, in this instance with a pair of light pressure turbocharger thrown into the mix. The low inertia blowers give a wide spread of torque and the correspondingly punchy 9.3:1 compression ratio means the engine never has that typically ‘baggy’ throttle response that many powerful turbocharged cars have when you catch them with their trousers down, off-boost and off-colour.

You may not agree with the rather OTT philosophy behind the RS6 Plus. Chances are you aren’t the target market. Those that simply want the best with no further questions asked will have no hesitation in plumping for this car. Unless that is, they’re holding out for an RS6 version of the latest generation A6 Avant. Something tells me they may have quite a wait on their hands.

Audi makes some great driving cars, it is to bad they can't make one that won't break down constantly.

All I want it for Christmas is an uprated ECU and two additional radiators tucked in by the intercoolers.
