    Garmont adrenalin

I am currently skiing -04 Salomon X-Wave 10 and -04 Denali XT thermos. I'm looking for a boot with a vibram sole that is as stiff as my x-waves. For long aproaches on bare ground (rocks). For all the late april, may and june skiing up here in northern norway.
I almost only ski backcountry and this season i'm gonna ski on 05 gotamas. Weight is no issue at all.

Has anyone tried the adrenalins? Are they much stiffer then the denali XT´s?

I read other posts on this board in which someone said the Denali TT´s would be much stiffer. I can't really belive this. They look exactly the same as last year (except colour) and I can't imagine that they would be so different just because of a stiffer tounge. They would need a complete reconstruction to be anywhere near my x-waves.

Are the adrenalins just a big hype, just like the denalis? Or are they actually good, and stiff?

Err no is the simple answer...I haven't skied the adrenalin but from messing with them in various stores they are very similar to the XT's...the TT are supposed to be a little stiffer but are still a touring boot not an alpine boot....I ski modified Lowa Struka evos (4th clip) which are now as stiff as the XT for touring but for most skiing and any short tours I use these

I have now done this for various buddies on Salomons, Richlee Flexons, Rosignol Sk's and Atomic race boots.....it takes a bit of thinking to adapt the method from one boot type to another but it ain't rocket science either.

    Ok..

Ok cool. But I don't know if I want to start messing with my only good boots. I'll think about it though. Maybe I'll take an old pair.

I'd like to know how good the adrenalins are. Are they much better than the denali XTs?

Put some Flexon toungues and Boosters on your XT's and quit yer whining. Or just tour in your X-waves???!!!!

    Yeah but...

The thing was that my x-waves dont have rubber soles. And walking 2 hours over sharp stone rubble in plastic soles is not my idea of shitloads of fun.

What is flexon toungues? From kneissl flexon boots? where would I get theese?
But I still dont think it'll be all that good.

Thats why I'm asking about adrenalins. Thanks anyway Mr floater

i have had to HEAVILY modify my adrenalin's to be skiable (on 190 explosives).
i put: 2 spoilers up front, 1 in the back, a thermoflex comp liner, and a booster stap on 'em, and now they work pretty good. expect to make similar adjustments to an XT if you are on big skis.

lph seems to like his Adrenalines.

That said, Garmonts and Scarpas have a completely different fit. Garmonts are on the narrow end of the scale while Scarpas are on the wide side. Last year I settled on some G-Rides cause I have a narrow foot, but the Scarpas were like boats. So you can't just go from a Scarpa to a Garmont. As with any boot...

    Get what fits.

    I have G-Rides

I tried the adrenalines on. They feel a lot more like an alpine boot.

However, they don't have the touring performance (not nearly as much ankle movement). Also the switchable sole looks like a pain in the but (you have to undo/redo 16 screws every time you want to switch vibram for plastic.

honestly, how often do you see yourself using this?
i was just psyched b/c now i can easily resole my AT boots, instead of buying new ones when my sole wear out...

    Thanks

Ok, so they're not a big revolution in boots. Too bad.

And I actually think my scarpas are a bit narrow in the forefoot.

But thanks for the answers. I'll think I'll just try and modify my scarpas a bit.

I skied my Adrenalines for the first time this past weekend. I'd echo what Idris has to say. They feel more like an alpine boot than any touring boot I've skied, but out of the box they still don't match my alpine boots (Lange Comp 120). I skied a pair of Volkl AX4's and a pair of Atomic R:9's with them. Much better lateral stiffness than my old Lowa EVO's. Enough forward stiffness to drive the bigger ski. Haven't toured in them yet but shouldn't be a problem. I don't think I'll ever put the plastic sole on them. Switching soles back and forth wouldn't be very practical, or convenient.

    Sally:

I ski a 190cm Launcher with my modified XT's...not a stiff ski, I know, but I'm 5'11" and not huge...and I have no problems with control. I can rail the things on groomers if I want to. Just modify your XT's.

Yo, I have been skiing my Adrenaline's with Naxo's and I've got about 10 days on them. They are killer, even touring. What I do is leave the buckles completely loose when walking uphill and they're fine. I had no problems keeping up with friends who use superlightweight Dynafit bindings. I am totally grooving on this boot. It blows my mind. Need I say more? Also, one thing: I think the Garmonts are wide.

I don't. My G-Rides work well with my Looks. If I skied Salomons, it woulud be a problem.

Just did 12 straight BC days on my new Adrenalins, I think they're pretty sweet both on the up and the down. The lower shell fit is pretty high volume, so buy the shortest you can and use a good footbed, customize from there. Otherwise, they perform better than my X-Wave 9's on the down, and waaaaaaaaaay beeter on the up. They're much stiffer in the cold than in the store. The only downside is their propensity to stink and a few loose bolts (carry the hex-wrench at all times).

    Cheers

dave g-that's damn good advice on the hex wrench, my buckles keep coming loose. I'm going to add some lock-tight to them. Excellent evaluation also, I've had to super customize the fit for my foot.

So a question on fit :
I wear a 26.5 icon and I'm pretty jammed in. I tried the adrenaline on in that size and couldn't even get in. The 27.0 seemed about right - with snuggness in the toe box. (hehehhe snug box)

Do those of you who use this boot think they should fit like ski boots or a little larger for touring comfort? What effect does the thermoflex fitting have?

those thermo liners pack out A TON when heated.
    1 full size or more.
when i first put on my 27.5 i was shitting myself cause i thought i needed the 28's... but after heating, i may have wanted the 27's.

I agree. The Adrenaline liners expand too much when they're molded. It makes fitting these puppies a bit tricky.

If you're a 26.5 in the Icon, try the 26.5 on the Adrenaline again. I have a pair of 26.5's in the Adrenaline (I measure just over a 9 and and wear a size 8 Lange) and although they felt tight before heating the G-fits, they are plenty big. A little too big is not a good idea, so give them another try before you buy. Due to the ultra-sucky VT weather, I haven't skied them enough to pack out the liners. I'll be curious to see if and how much this happens.
