Seems he's basically going to turn it into a huge park and training facility while still remaining open for the non-rad.
Pretty cool idea.

What about the un-rad?
That's pretty cool. Sounds like a Camp Woodward type thing with the skate parks and whatnot, but with winter sports included as well.

This is a great idea- and could save or rejuvinate a few other small areas. I sometimes wish I had the money to buy the defunct Scotch Valley where I grew up and turn it into a park and glade mountain. Glad to hear someone is actually doing this.

I was just talking to Powder11 about Whaleback on Friday, since we drove by it on the way from Boston to Sugarbush. In college we always joked about Whaleback since it was so obviously defunct but still had the giant "Ski Whaleback" sign, and then I think the year after I graduated someone bought it and opened it again. For awhile it looked like sort of a cool race training place, but I guess it didn't work.
Some pretty decent pitch for such a small place (at least it looks that way from 89).
Can't think of Dybvig without thinking of his SLC Olympics attempt to ski with two blown ACL's, and how it looked when he landed that air and his leg gave...ouch.

Hold on, Whaleback has 30 trails? I always assumed it was just the 4 you can see from 89. Also I thought the town was named Purmort but whatever. I've only ever been to the gas station a mile down the road and never to Whaleback. Well, I hope Dybvig can get the place rockin and is able to kill it, maybe basom can help him by teaching him how to kill it. It is on the way to Stowe after all.
thats new hampshire as fuck
We ain't eager to be legal, so please leave me with the keys to your Jeep Eagle.
I was filming him at WP when he blew the 2nd ACL in practice. Still makes me cringe to watch that tape. Couldn't believe he still competed after that.Originally Posted by Dexter Rutecki
Yeah, I think people who think they're really going to ski without an ACL should see something like that. Ouch again.

Karma.
whaleback has pretty much what you can see from the road. definitely not legit 30 trails. maybe 7 or 8. and the front face under the lift has very good pitch for a short while.
i'm really just killing it this season.Originally Posted by vinzclortho

in other news the guy who has that nelsap website with all the defunct NE ski areas on it was on Chronicle last night. They went and scoped out Snow Valley in southern VT. it was pretty hot. the lift was rusty. i guess they are going to re open it.
basom has been having a sick season. just killing it, really.

Pretty harsh words from Yeti, even if they are on behalf of a mystery person(s) (who did not attend KMS??).
