Can't find a friggin' tow partner!
Last weekend I went to Morro Bay to try a second person for tow-in partner. The first guy had potential but his schedule made it really hard for him to pack up when it was on. Since we gotta drive 6 hours for surf, it becomes a "watch the reports" spur of the moment made dash. Guy #2 says he's got some jet ski backround and I have surfed with him a bunch, even though he kneeboards when it gets big.
So we head out on the south side of the jetty for some practice. 4-6 ft beachbreak is all it was. An hour later the guy is saying how uncomfortable he is riding the ski in "the big surf". We had only been taking turns riding the ski so far and hadnt even towed yet. He says he's not up to it. Well, I give him respect for being honest but there is no way I'm gonna put my life and $15,000 worth of gear in the hands of someone who says, "I dont think I can handle big surf.". Ended up paddle surfing some good waves including a day at Willow Creek in Big Sur, breaking 6-8 ft. but not finding a worthy partner. Looks like it could be a whole season before I can find someone with brains AND balls willing to go at a moments notice. Could be 'cause I live in a ski town, huh?
Gave up on the bottle, give me the lobotomy.
