Way too soon: anyone for SA next year?

Anyone going to South America to ski next summer? My savings account is dedicated to a trip down there. I already have my plane ticket $$. Are you guys from this year looking to do a repeat? Anyone else?

What? Squirrel99 hasn't posted here yet? I win!

I'm dropping little hints to Mrs. Powstash of cashing in my sky miles to get a trip to SA. Of course, I told her I've got enough for us to go to Hawaii together as well which is helping, I think. 9 years and she's still hard to read on this stuff.

If all goes well and I get the second scholarship, I will be moving into my new home in Christchurch, NZ in June if anyone wants to ski the "other" southern hemisphere locales. Any and all are welcome on my couch.

I'll answer for Tyrone. He's going. And is going to rip the chit out of Lenas (with a healthy and strong knee).

We've got a group from the PNW that I'll prolly be organizing sometime this spring. Target dates sometime between August 21 - September 15. Depends on everyone's schedule.

Powstash- I have a spot reserved for you and the Mrs.

I'm planning on the first half of July -- work conflicts prevent me from joining the PNW crew in late Aug/early Sept.

    Ummm...gee...lemme think...

    ^ 2 days after a storm.

Oh and powstash, bringing the wife along is always an option. There is some serious pampering available in Bariloche, along with some great skiing. It's more of a lake resort town than a ski town.

I'm very interested in a SA/NZ trip. Any time end of August/early September would be cool.

Well, my sister and I stayed at the Pire Hue. It's slopeside at Cerro Catedral. If you want pampering, it's sweet. They have a great spa according to my sis. Really nice pool too. However, it's also expensive. I wouldn't stay there again. The staff was nice, but the people were really stuck up. It just wasn't worth the money.

If you are looking for that kind of place though, I hear that the Llao Llao is the call. Super ultra deluxe with amazing service and killer views.

Next time I want to stay in town, though. There's just so much more to do down there. Great restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. And it's a super easy drive up the hill. Or you can catch a bus.

Yoss, the Rev, and Cornhole stayed in town, and their hotel looked schwank. From what I understand it was a lot cheaper too.

As for the area in general, the lake is about 75 miles long. Bariloche itself is like a cool little European alpine lake town. I'm not talking about the Intrawestized European villages either. This place has it's own flavor. Great place.

Getting there is pretty easy too. Lots of busses and flights from Buenos Aires.

Thanks - Just looking for somewhere spouses not quite as ski crazy as mine will be happy spending their summer vacation. Portillo was great but it was starting to feel a little bit like groundhog day after a while at the hotel. I'm not sure I want to go back there for a couple of years. LL was amazing and personally I'd stay in an uncovered hole in the ground in order to ski Marte or even wait for the chance of skiing Marte. but maybe something a little less luna base like might be necessary to keep everyone happy. Travel options to LL are also a factor unless Malargue flights are available.

I saw some sweet looking Bariloche pics one of the other guys posted here during the summer - how is the terrain? varied enough to keep both ends of the spectrum happy?

Yep! At least a few weeks down there most likely spending a majority at the super secret maggot location from last year. Current plans call for a mid-august arrival. I can smell the Pisco already...

Just roughly how much do you all spend on a trip like this...airfare + hotels + bar tab.
