Divegirl, I must have missed this thread back in Dec. Count me IN!

I have enough flyer miles to go, and if PNW contingent really pulls together I would love to go w/ a group.

This company: http://www.laslenas.net/toursindex.html offers some pretty good deals. This particular package was $950+ but included a lot of stuff. If you can get a group of 12+ people they will apply a group discount to everyone and you can get below the $950 price as more go.

Then there is my preferred way of just staying wherever you can find an apartment for cheap, rent a car, and play it by ear (not an all-inclusive or cushy resort experience). I'm of course more comfortable doing this than some b/c I know the language. Wait til you hear me burst into fluent spanish. People have no idea I speak it like that and it freaks 'em out every time!

But no, it's not too early to begin conspiring to do this. I'm happy to help in any way. Should just call it a South America Summit this summer since so many are interested? What do you guys say about actually planning this as a summer summit (yes, I'm volunteering to help...translating, stickers, etc)? Has there ever even been a SA summit yet?

Counting down days to Lenas / Termas / Bariloche
It appears winter is not going to show up in WA so I might as well start to look forward to an epic summer trip

Understand the Flights to Malargue are only on Saturdays if you're going to LL. This is the closest airport to LL. I flew into San Rafael and rented a car. This ended up being less that a 2 hour drive but this also allowed me to follow the storms while I was down there and not be tied to a Saturday flight. Mendoza is another option but it seemed like it was longer drive to LL, although if you stop at the wineries it might not seem so long.

And if you're in your 20s, Damajuana hostel is totally worth it (<$10). Meet travelers from all over the world, maybe even some skiers, and get to go out and see Mendoza which is an awesome town!

Yep- Damajuana is where all the cool kids hang out when not in Lenas. Rasta Max is the 'resident welcoming committee/concierge.' Pretty much gtd. to find some really great people there (especially that group of Swedish women last year ) And last year it was warm enough to get in some pool time.

good suggestions for plane tickets? Yep:
It is much better to procure them ahead of time than wait till the day of departure.
