Having just surfed Trestles in a very old, very worn 4/3, with very leaky seams, I can attest to the chilly aspect of the OC water.

And if you can get paid to put on your seal suit, power to ya. Up here, looking like a seal is a bit of an occupational hazard. As in you look like lunch.

"Up here" meaning Santa Cruz? At some point I need to look at shark danger. There was one attack on Maui the whole summer so I really didn't even think about it. All those sea lions and seals in socal though, seem like they would attract big sharks. Are attacks common?

I need to work on the job thing or I'll end up handing out popcorn at Sea World. Which would be ok actually. But I'm so distracted right now, so much snow falling from the sky! One last storm later this week and then we're supposed to get into the spring melt. But that's always good skiing too. And climbing. Ah well, there are worse problems.

You should try Tahoe. No distractions this season. At least nothing serious since December.

And yes, Santa Cruz. Town is not bad, but the open coastline is pretty sharky. SoCal not as much. I think the big fish down there hang out by the islands.

Definitely not common down here but we did have that triathlete that was swimming inside the kelp beds and got hit by a 15'er in Solana Beach, unfortunately the guy bled out on the beach. At the time, I lived in SB and usually surfed that stretch of beach. Sad day.
