    Mammut Pulse Discontinuted?

I tried to order a Pulse beacon off of Mountain Gear a few days ago. They had them for a pretty good deal, $350. They contacted me after I had ordered and told me the beacon has been discontinued and they are sold out. He said they were coming out with something new for 2011-12. Is this true? Haven't really seen anything on a new Mammut/Barryvox.

I haven't heard they were discontiuning the pulse.. I love mine.. but I did see on wildsnow that they were coming out with a beacon like the pulse, but without all the crazy features that the pulse has.. basically, it will just run in the basic mode..

My understanding is that they will be introducing a less expensive dumbed down version that seemed to have the same housing design but Lime green in color.

The Pulse will still be available just the way it is now...but... the firmware will be upgraded. Not to worry if you currently have the Pulse you can go to the official retailer/distributer in your area and upgrade the firmware so you will have the updated pulse that will be on the shelves in Sept 2011. In Utah I will be going to White Pine to get mine upgraded. I believe white pine will be charging $25-30 for the upgrade (Rumor).

That is what I got out of the OR show in January.

you should see the New Pieps offering with GPS Built in... It looks really cool. I may consider trying it out if it is all they said it would be at the show. We'll see what & if they actually ship.

Pulse definitely continues for next year....

Mammut Element is a more simplified Pulse coming out next season to directly compete with the BCA Tracker 2. Similarly featured and targeted at that same price point as well.

So Mountain Gear has put up listings for products that won't be available for months or even sometimes years, yet claims a product it doesn't have yet that everyone else has is being discontinued?
Anyway, as I wrote in the link that's already posted here, yes the Element is coming out for next year, but no, that doesn't mean the Pulse is being discontinued.
The Pulse has already been through a fairly major firmware upgrade. I don't know if another upgrade will be available this fall, that will hardly be surprising.

Hey All, I work for Mammut's PR firm and I can tell you with ABSOLUTE certainty, that the PULSE is in next years line. I am basing this on having attended the Fall sales meeting as well as presenting the line at the Mammut booth throughout Outdoor Retailer in SLC this past January.

We are introducing a new beacon this coming fall called the ELEMENT Barryvox that is a simpler, user friendly beacon for the occasional user. It will retail for $350 and retains the majority of the features on the PULSE including 3 antennas, multiple burial capability and identical strip and search strip and range. If you have any questions, please hit me up at ttd@momentummediapr.com.

Thanks for supporting the Mammut brand!

I figured the Pulse wasn't discontinued. That's why I posted here since I thought it was so weird that he said it was. Thanks for all the clarifications.

I love my Pulse. Anyone have a line on what the firmware upgrade will entail?

I was just emailing the U.S. distributor about something else, and while I was at it, asked about any firmware upgrade for Fall 2011: no such upgrade is planned.

The specific rep I spoke with, who was the Beacon specialist, at the OR show in January... said the Firmware proposed would not add any extra bells or whistles to the beacon. Only improve efficiency in processing data.
