Hahahaha. I used to think they were kinda nifty, but didn't want one until I could huck off cliffs, do flips, or do anything cool for that matter. I still can't do shit that would impress anyone, so now I just plain don't want one anymore. Lately, it does seem like they're everywhere! I now see multiple people "ripping" up the sleepy green groomers with them. Way to slay the cat tracks!

Thankfully some of the more bad-ass skiers on these forums can totally justify using them, though.

I saw a guy at the basin in november with a GoPro mounted on his bike helmet, which he was skiing with. He immediately asked me if Gauthier was open before putting down the bar. Fucking tool, he's probably on this site too.....

Honestly the gopro was a good idea! I rember talking to a guy at the bar 3 years ago about how a hd 1080p helmet cam that was affordable would be a good idea and now 3 years later look how popular it is. Obviously there was a market for it and someone's getting rich. I've shot some pretty good video with my gopro hero that I probably wouldn't have otherwise. It's light, shoots good video, and it's affordable. Yes, I am sure there is lot's of boring gopro video out there, but there is also some bad ass gopro video out there as well. The video screen is stupid unless you really want to make sure someone is in the screen but the battery pack is nice, now you never have to turn it off. So next time I'm riding a lift at vail and the 2 chairs infront of me cause a pile up while getting off and the liftie isin't paying attention and me and my friends are dragged into the pile of gapers i will have it on video. My only gripe is that the 1080p setting needs to have a wider field of vision, I'm guessing the gopro hero2 will have it.

I can barely make it down any ungroomed slope, but I left my gaper-dom behind months ago when I found out what a gaper was. I can finally see that those guys were just trying to help me out! After extensive research I got rid of all my gaper accessories and bought all the "core" gear bra. I got my rockered skis (185's bitch!), my sweet jacket, my awesome helmet and my god damn helmet cam. Next I'm buying a dog. He's gonna be awesome.

My point was that decent affordable helmet cameras are a reality now and people that can't afford 3 million dollar 3D cameras can still make great videos with a $300 camera. Out of the Shadows from Dendrite Studios is a great example of a great ski movie that uses pro-tard cameras for some of their footage. And yes, I do not wan't to watch video of a gaper slaying groomers, but I do want to watch video of that gaper eating shit or say getting run over by his friends sled while laying at the bottom of a run after his friend ghostrided it down the hill.

Man, I was at the basin a while ago with my sweet new GOPRO HD 1080p attached to my bike helmet. I ask this dude on the lift if Gauthier was open.

He was all gnared out like he could shred on his Dynastud XXXXXL's that he kept saying were just like the Raceroom WorldCup GS ski but I looked around and didn't see a race course; he had carabiners hanging from every zipper, and a hardcore fullface helmet with a sticker on it that asked for change so he must have voted Obama,...but sheesh...I mean the guy didn't even have a GOPRO HD 1080P on, so how hardcore could he have been anyway?

He just called me a gaffer,..??!?? Like I would know anything about movie lighting...I mean he probably thought that I was a professional skier and film maker because I had my GOPRO HD 1080OP on my helmet...

So I put the safety bar down and recorded the lift ride up on my GOPRO HD 1080P, but in 720I at 60 FPS so I could post a 5 minute edit of the slow motion rad lift footage.

I'm not a fan of the GoPro simply because it is kind of obnoxious looking but I do enjoy watching a good POV vid. Check out anything by SuperG TV on youtube or on here. He has fantastic POV's that really capture an amazing ski experience that you wouldn't otherwise get to re-live.
