120mm+ of precip forecasted. and thats a conservative prediction. 100cm of snow will fall in most areas. 150 should fall at some places. more could be possible

My timing is just always off! If I had delayed my trip to St.Anton by one week, I would have been skiing neck-deep pow instead of ruining my G4's on a rock onthe backside of Valuga.

The good thing is that this will give a great base for later in the season...

I think I will have to look for cheap flights to zurich at the end of next week...

Hi,

I can get cheap flights to geneva. Does anybody know about bus/train rides or other ways to get to Chamo, Verbier, at night (at about 11pm from the airport) and rides back so I can catch a flight at 8pm sunday? Or maybe how I can get this info. Thanks.

i haven't unfortunately! i'm crap with photos/cameras etc...

i got in touch with ripzalot when it started snowing, but i think he was working, and i had to come back and work today, but he said he may be out today and definitely tomorrow, he's bound to get a few pics.

hopefully i'll get to la grave next week for a few days at the end of the week, as it would be good to meet a few more mags!

we jinxed it.
slf predicted 50-80cm overnight in northern switzerland. and engelberg has received 5cm in the last24h!! WTF ?
that is impossible.
goddammit.
ok well at least austria is within the predictions with 30-50cm fresh.
but what the hell ? i mean .. come on ULLR ? what's the deal ? are you going to torture us PNW style ?

thanks for info! That shuttle deal is increadible. 40 Euros for one person??!! As far as I can see, you need only to be one person. That's the cheapest 2 hour taxi ride I have heard about! I wonder if they show up for only one person though..?!

As I am working in Norway, the deal would be to go down f.ex thursday the 27th and back sunday night. It is still only an idea. But I would love to do it. I am not so sure that I share that enthusiasm whith my girlfriend. Hmm... Planefares are dirt cheap though..

it's really not that bad considering that they have fluffers onboard who start working on you right away.

engelberg was great, but there will be:
more.

it is currently starting to dump.

dumping a nice 20-50cm all over the northern alps until tomorrow evening id guess.(usual suspects should receive the most.)
then snowfall will favour the eastern alps where it may snow until thursday.
the Krippenstein has a 280cm base right now(that is more than the Arlberg

) and should receive its share. so im there from Friday to.......well ill decide based on weather and snow.

enjoy the fresh and hail ULLR for trying to make up for the bad start.

the redbull in gressoney has been postponed to march 1-5. It sounds smart because the southern monte rosa area has received much less snow than the north in the past month, and still there's nothing at sight. Courmayeur got some dumping (much less than cham, anyway), but all interesting spots there (toula, brenva, youla, arp, etc) suck by now.

I was awoken to the sound of the snowplow this morning.
That's good news. Looks like about 10cm fresh outside my door.

FYI on snow around here: there is plenty.

Unfortunately, the last dump was followed by a cold wind (aka The Bise) which ruined most of the off piste snow. Bummer.
However, our base is in, and it is deep.

My only concern is the av danger it presents, as the wind crust layer may not wish to bond well with new snow. We'll see.

This new snow should be fun to ride around on.

The Krippenstein Area and the whole Salzkammergut are going off !!!
30-50cm overnight at official avalanche service measureing stations!

and here is one from a ski area there

and that ski area has a top station of only 1770m ! 100cm fresh over night !
i dont know the reliability of ski area measurements but if that's true ......
and another 50cm should come until Thursday !

confirmed !
it is getting ridiculous in Austria. some areas (totes gebirge, steiermark) have received 2m of fresh in the last 36h !!
The Krippenstein more than one. with having a 320cm base at the top (at only 2000m )
If you have the chance head east ! The weather will clear on friday and give way for an epic weekend.
Another 50cm to 1m are scheduled until tomorrow evening.

Feb 2 Observations: 5PM
With the tools I have ...this storm's dumpage will be East of Engelberg (centre of CH) into Austria. I think you would be safe to pick any ski station in the "pan-handle" of Austria for freshies during the next 48 hours.

Western CH will receive a little snow to freshen things up, but not enough to repair the tracked-out off-piste. We have clouds thickening up over lac Leman this afternoon, but not enough density to get hammered in Western CH.

Patches of blue over les Hautes Alpes & Mont Blanc this afternoon. They may get a dusting over the next 24-48 hours.
