Excellent day at Courmeyer today with Geo and Matias. 20-30cm fresh and light, on an icy base at the bottom but well bonded at the top (and maybe a bit more up there). Fresh tracks all day in the trees and a surprise clearing where we got in a lovely run down the Youla.

I just skied an entire week of powder, now another week coming? "The life is good," as an Italian friend likes to say.

Ya hopefully things will improve here. Just realize I live at a low elevation resort and havent been able to go off the groomers so the situation is different. Just need to get above 2000m

Powder in Chamonix today. High winds and low visibility.
Love how the tourists leave the powder untouched.

were you on the mtn today? it went from dumping to puking in the afternoon. fun day. we made first tracks all over. le plan was excellent, knee deep blower. les fers was fun too. oddly tho, there was hardly a soul on the mtn. we were expecting mobs due to the vaud holidays, but they never showed up.

the dump will continue, and the 3-6 day forecast maps are all lit up.

Finally! Two in a row.@ La Clusaz today, I wouldn't call it blower, but at least 20cm+ untouched on the upper slopes. The Balme section was on hold until about 9:20ish, but then it opened and I was on the first 3 bubbles. There was no connection to the main mtn because lifts were on windholds so it was quiet. It was SICK! Untracked lap after lap until about 1ish. Lower sections were soupy, but still snowing hard when I left.

Ripz, Glad you got some too! Looks like a Friday road trip in the making

The mountain was empty! We went up at like 12:30(long night last night) and didnt come down till the lifts were closed, we didnt want to come in. We were over at Les Fers for a while, there was a bunch of tracking there. But ya I couldnt believe how empty it was, it was awesome.

Can you imagine how sick comb d'adon at Diablerets will be when it opens!!!

    the forecast looks goood.....

so enjoy the next days. 70cm today and tomorrow in western switz and cham.
    AND IT WILL GO ON.
Im seriously considering coming down on wednesday/thursday. and doing some stormskiing (and i hope the summer forecast after next weekend doesn't materialze).
Problems will be the snowlevels playing Jojo. (is Jojo the english term of what im thinking of?)

Sooo anyone up for a Trip to La grave? They may get nearly as much as cham and have a smaller crowd. and: multo bueno storm skiing.

ya i would agree, around ~1500m it starts to get deeper and light. Ripz what do you think the accumulation was? I would say as little as 20cm in the windripped spots, but we hit some stashes with 50+cm

Let me define the line this way:
At entrance (pick a run), nice snow, let 'em ride.
At exit...well, we placed sticks in a X formation due to the rocks.

I need to emphasize this, there was no cover at the bottom of the snow line.
The cat track back to Leysin had about enough snow for my basket to pierce before hitting asphalt below.

The line is defined. Respect it. I agree with the 1500m call.

It's been hammering out all day here. Gotta love.

Cover at both Courmayeur and Clusaz was really good. Crusty stuff under the new snow which really helped cover the rocks up nice....glad to see everyone getting some! I agree with Al, lower is a crapshoot.

Just back from a week in Zermatt.

Ultra shitty windblown crap above treeline (which is close to everything). All sorts of crusty shite. Using the skins founds us a few softish spots of snow on a few sheltered aspects.

Left saturday just after a few cm's of new snow, which came a few hours too late for the gf (who 'inspected the quality of the icy hard piste' the hard way i.e. with her head and got herself a concussion [insert roll eye smiley]... she's doing better now, thank god).

The new stuff could well leave a few interesting schneebretter on top of some (locally) serious surface hoar...
