You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

    Try this, seems prety reliable:

    http://www.3bmeteo.com/home/meteo_neve.php

    or this:

    http://www.arpa.veneto.it/nivometeo.htm

from what I could see through the web no base on south faces up to 2500 M or so maybe even higher. Don't know about north faces. Arabba received some 45 cm in the last 24 hours. Up to 30 cm are expected for today.

    You might want to check

http://www.proguide.it this local guide gives regular snow updates on his site

A live report from someone there would be appreciated though.

but i might go tomorrow if it opens. a tad disappointing - leysin reporting only 25cms, verbier 30cms. if similar on the glacier/combe then it's just enough to cover the rocks. still will require rockboards and a pick around to get the goods. no mach 5s.

rune - i might be up for a day at verbier. depends on the snow obviously. keep in touch.

I thought I may practice my skinning technique on Figg's Marsh. Tooting Bec common may have more incline.

When I were a lad and it snowed every year in Sarf London....we used to see skiers on Streatham Common and in Norwood Park.

The best lines are in an area of Streatham Common that was (is still?) known as New Park. Mrs Roo, if you are close by but don't know where I mean PM me and I'll direct you to the Secret Stash!

We grew up on what was then The Dark Side....tobogans!

These days we live in the country....Guildford Golf Club is the best place for miles around when there is snow.

I soooo nearly declared a day off work for myself on the grounds of "Snow Day" for some toboganing there but my wife pointed out that the kids had school and she had plans so only a saddo in his 40's would be out there alone.

Still...if there is more snow tonight I will be That Saddo tomorrow!!!

20-30cm of snow onto rock/grass with a few -15 degree clear days in the Alps should be perfect conditions for depth hoar propagation. Sharp temperature gradient in the snowpack. Be careful.

Used to stay near there. Climbed the Kampenwand many times as a kid. My old man worked in Eggstatt on the Hartsee.

Nassfeld now reporting 120cm of new snow while some of the northern places like Kitzsteinhorn are only reporting 5cm of fresh - the Alps have crazy weather patterns. More snow coming on Friday/Saturday for the northern regions in the east.

yeah i can confirm the situation of "some of the northern places". looks like north/mid tyrol didnt get much, most places max. 20cm. skied 10-15cm of dust on crust/tree stumps/branches/rocks today.. had fun & it was better than nothing but theres still no base. a friend twisted the edge of his snowboard, and i got some p-tex work to do.. well, its white and looks pretty but thats about it, we could've used a lot more. hopefully saturday will bring some.

dust on stumps/branches is better than dust on rocks.. ^^ i wasnt surprised by the lack of base, just by the lack of new snow ;(

Never skied the Kampenwand. I was usually there in summer. I can see that it could have some decent terrain.

Skied the Petit Envers this afternoon, With Martina and Noono. Wind crust on 60cm (2ft) of fresh up high. As soon as you are out of the wind its fluffy - about 30cm (a foot) down on the mer de glace.

Out into the mist it's hard to see

    Noono bails in the pow

Martina puts a brave face on things
