I’ve only been to Europe once but from what I saw after several storms, they rarely if at all do any control. If they do it’s on a face or potential run out that will conflict with a lift, such as this one and very minimal. Also I believe and will be corrected if wrong, that if you cause a slide you are responsible for the damages. At least that was my understanding talking to locals. Sure was a blast being able to ski anything you wanted, roped or not.

That's basically my understanding as well. This seemed like it could/would be a face they'd control since there's a lift right in the runout.

Soo...normally this shouldn't happen as it runs to a Piste/cat track. So that is usually controlled. More interestingly there are tracks on it already.

And no you don't have to pay or get sued for avies unless they reach a Piste and are in Italy. In Italy it's usually only if you go lift assisted. I haven't heard of a touring case.
But yeah Italy sucks. ( But that varies from province to province and depends on freeride tradition at the resorts...ive never heard of anything in courmayeur but sulden in this video is apparently really strict)

The rest of Europe is still the way it should be. You leave the pistes you're on your own. Even if it's 10m.

"But yeah Italy sucks." - but the food is bomba!
My mind automatically place a couple of avi barriers at the top of that slope and a Schnitzel in my plate.

Mortem list keeps growing from yesterday. 4 norwegians at once, one swiss lady...rip.

The actual race was fun albeit a shit show. My start time was 1510 and the course was a toboggan run; deep ruts, ice,

I guess they went straight into hiding. That's what I'd do in Italy.

That's the one. It's an old club, goes back to the early part of the 20th century - the Inferno race was originally organised by/for their members. The first race was pretty wild, from what I remember being told about it the competitors climbed and bivvied the night before the race, climbed some more to get to the top of the Schilthorn, then raced down to the valley. Obviously no lifts or pistes.

I trained and raced with the club as a junior back in the day, the junior training is only one part of the club (a load of adult stuff goes on too) but it's probably more visible than the adult stuff away from Mürren because the juniors race all over the place. It's a very different vibe to when I did it - I looked into it for my children and they now stipulate a minimum of 8 weeks of training a year (at pretty massive cost per week). I know skiing's never been cheap but it used to be a more inclusive way into racing and kids could do a week or two here or there. That said, some of the kids I raced alongside were pretty tidy skiers, a few went onto the World Cup circuit.

My kids are on the UK race circuit. I'm surprised anyone here would know anything about the likes of Kandhar. I'm not a big fan of those types of training set ups. it seems its all about making money.
My kids do some weekend training camps with some of kandahar competitors.

Like I say, it was a very different vibe 30 years ago. Definitely not for profit, all about getting kids into racing, whatever their starting skill level and commitment. There were some rich brats (it is still skiing, right? *shrugs*) but also kids from pretty humble backgrounds too.

Can’t blame you for having that opinion about it, I don’t like the look of the way they run their kids’ racing these days either. I was pretty shocked that it’s basically (from memory) a GBP30,000 per year buy in. Minimum. Plus equipment. Plus travel. Not exactly about bringing ski racing to the masses.

I don’t have anything to do with it these days, that sort of club’s not really my thing. Who do your kids race with?

Midland ski club, Also some with Uniq. They're on a summer training camp at Langraf with impulse racing. we're in the process of moving to poland. the race club in wroclaw(breslau) is a non for profit more our kind of thing. Dad's help packing gates away type of thing

Verbs definitely delivered this past week. Wednesday was the day and the rest of the week was pretty damn good. Yes; Kandahar Ski Club as in the UK group. The club celebrated 100 years in 2024 and set up some of the original down hill races pre-FIS. Racing ain&rsquo;t really my gig but it was a fun experience&hellip;the torchlight, the burning the devil experience, the race. Some people definitely take it too seriously but to each their own. I was asked about my wax preference to which I replied Brazilian. Can&rsquo;t really comment on the kids programs as I am not that involved.</p>

Does anyone happen to have any beta on Fieberbrunn? I’ll be in Switzerland for the Eurogrumble in early March and I’m thinking of making a detour for a few days. There happens to be a junior IFSA event the same weekend at the Fieberbrunn FWT stop. It’d be cool for the kid to compete and hopefully catch some of the pros.

I just looked at the euro grumble dates and Fieberbrunn pro dates. I am not sure how u want to wing that.
According to maps rueras is 5h driving to fieberbrunn by car. And not all straight highway.
I am Innsbruck that is 2/3 of the way, you and your kid can crash here on the way no problem.
If you need more info let me know.

The other junior series is www.open-faces.com
There is a 22.02.25 contest in Montafon. That’s only 2h away from rueras.
01.03.25 at Großglockner.(new stop no info where exact)
    22.03.25 obertauern (6h away)

    Snow for the Euros.

If we do it, my plan would be to take the train from Zurich when we land on the sixth. Looks like a five hour train from Zurich. The comp is the seventh and eighth. Probably take the train on the tenth to Rueras. That last portion is my main holdup, because it’s a six hour ride with five changes. Kind of a pain in the ass with ski gear.

As your lawyer I do not recommend that. Unless you have Singapore slings with mescaline.

Yeah Zurich to fieberbrunn is relatively easy. The good connection requires only one change.

Pt2 getting to rueras is trickier. I see 6changes too. They also over me a 4change option.(just a rough check online)

I am using Austrian railway homepage.
www.oebb.at but only because I am used to it.

I tried to adjust also the dates on the link but it doesn’t let me share the trainconnections for the 10th of march.

Yeah, I was originally looking at the SBB site, but had better luck using oebb.

How are conditions over there right now. From what I can tell online, they seem to have had a pretty dry year.

Conditions east of the Arlberg are pretty marginal according to our condition reports at Powderguide. And two more weeks of sunshine won't help....

I can only agree. Skiing is a fitness only activity at the moment. Uphill and downhill. Sharks everywhere and a thin / transformed snowpack. If it snows it is dangerous. Last week cycle triggered endless amount of slides.
Less in the Kitzbühel region by the report but still no bueno.
We never got a base this season.

I think I’m gonna pass on making the side trip. Too much of a hassle logistics wise with the current conditions.

Currently in Uludag, Turkiye a couple of hours from Istanbul.

    Been snowing since Wednesday morning.

Blowing a gale so upper lifts on wind hold.

Hopefully it'll be clear & calm tomorrow.

I leave for Kartalkya on Sunday.
