I got an email from Gary about it last week. I'm excited to see what it turns into.

I also feel like Gary's life story would make a really awesome documentary. He's built an incredible life living by his own rules and making stuff happen for himself.

This pic was posted yesterday from the Dolomites from a friend. No, she doesn't use yellow filters. Saw another video on Facebook of somebody skiing a few inches of sand over snow down in the Sierra Nevada in Spain.

I've had worse than I had at Kitzbühel today. I feel sorry for you Euros who've had a rough season. I thought we had it bad in Seattle, but it was rough out here. Lots of bare spots even above 1800M. Snow was slush by Noon all the way to 2000M. Sand was present off piste, but didn't notice on the piste. Off piste was a rotten, slush mank.

That said, I still had a fun time. Sun broke through the clouds to get some of the scenery. I could see that the area had a lot of potential. As for it being a "high brow" resort, other than the fancy lifts it didn't seem like that. Nothing like Deer Valley in the US. I guess that's one of the reasons I love skiing in Europe. The mountain culture is very refreshing compared to the US resort culture.

Also, I had the best kaiserschmarrn I've ever had a at a hut just above the Hannemkahn gondola. Came out in a sizzling pan. Highly recommend it.

Nice. Kaiserschmarrn is never bad. The snowfall is ( r rather...was.it hasn't snowed in 4 weeks)not that far from the average in some places, but even there it never really worked out to be good in the sense of quality. The drought hasn't helped....

    And nordkette: nice play. [emoji6]

I'm gona run with tirol card for next season and mix it up along the Zillertal valley/ischgl/sölden/kirchberg its great value. it's more than €1k cheaper than our season passes for the EK.

The pattern has repeated itself the whole season....high over us. Northern flow in the east.

I'm currently in Zermatt after spending some time in the Arlberg.

The Sahara sand did not make it this far north/west and today was full blue skies.

Surprising to hear Zermatt didn't get sand when the east and west of it did.

Very warm and sunny in Lech at the moment. My dad had fun today though, and that's my goal for this trip.

Hope you manage to enjoy yourself too 😉

Got up high today, good times but definitely feels like late April in mid March!

    Enjoy.
    Thanks!

Dumb tourist question- what are the rules/regulations for skiing off piste in Austria? Do I need beacon/shovel/prob for what you are recommending?

No rules, but keep in mind it isn’t controlled, so safety gear approach should be dialed accordingly

It‘s called Schweinströge and that’s definitely not an area where some tourists without solid local knowledge should get into.
Lots of nasty wet snow avalanches on steep sun exposed faces in Anton. You won’t enjoy sliding down Schweinströge in one of those if you get the timing wrong.

Definitely not recommend in very unstable snowpack and with zero local knowledge.
You can watch Tao Kraibich‘s „Schindler Porn 2.0“ on YT to get a glimpse of the terrain.
