Do you think it would still be good on Thursday? Give me a call I'll head over either tomorrow night or Thurs morning, if you're up for it.

Still got this bird flu like thing but I ended up doing a quick Vallee Blanche run this afternoon 'cause it was just too beautiful of a day to pass up. Hacking and coughing and out of breath on the steeper bits, but hey, it was fun.

Snow pretty thick and heavy - seems from high winds back there. First-hand reports of a giant 1.5m deep slab avalanche on the second steep slope of the Grands Envers du Plan a.k.a. Col du Plan... ALL the recent snow appearently slid right down to the glaciar ice. The very slope Idris and I skiied from my last TR, damn, dangerous stuff.

Got plans to do a quick run off the Midi tomorrow on a route I haven't done but have wanted to do for a couple years... don't want to jink it so 'nuf said but will bring the camera for this one.

Apparently as soon as I leave, the sun decides to come out of hiding.

    sure... well one actually

fatfreddy(the guy on skis in the black jacket who does a "cork 5 whatever" over the one kicker) is one of the german maggots i met and the only one i know who tries a backflip over a 50cm corniche into flat "because he was in the mood for it"

G3000 yesterday with TeleAl and LITT: somewhat disappointed. the avy debris in the combe was amazing. i have never seen it in such bad shape. our usual left routes were completely unrideable (tho i tried) and completely blocked. the snow was ok at the top, but after about 3 turns (my turns) it turned heavy or crusty. the only good run was our under-the-chair run to reusch, which was nice and soft down to the treeline.

    litt inspecting the crust

al getting in a few top turns

Anyone got any (first-hand) info on conditions and forecasts in Arrabba and Cortina d'Ampezzo, or anything nearby?

Heading that way on Friday, wondering where to spend the first day or two.

Wow just returned from a week at Verbier. Deep powder every day. Phrases such as "best week of the year" filled the air. Stayed in a friends new chalet halfway up the Savoleyres Gondola. He built it after securing the merchandising rights to these guys www.alinghi.com before they won anything. Stairway, Highway, Backside, Attelas Chutes, Vallon d'Arbi, etc seemed to be recoated with powder every day. Not much in the way of pics or videos as these snow starved people had no intention of slowing down for a camera......

    - Those long skates across the glacier
    - Those long, high traverses
    - Skiing 800m higher than I normally do
    - Snow conditions change during each descente
    - Weather conditions (although, yesterday it was an exceptional bluebird ).

In spite of it all, G3 never disappoints. Thanks!

EDIT: I could never understand where my pic was taken. All our good pow turns were in the shade under the cliffs.
Just realized...that "divot" above my current turn is that hidden rock face I hit and skidded off.
It crushed my ski's sidewall and distorted the edge....
I could hear you guys snickering from the safety of the piste.....

with 30cm more snow, it could have been an error free descente.....

Bummer about your skis .... if you can't get it sorted for the summit .. i can lend you a set .

    ^^ ???
    yes ?

and btw. it looks really really bad for the euro mini....

the cold front on sat/sun doesn't reach the alps and warm SW airflow will verlikely break through by next tue/wednesday.....

im still hoping the cold air gets some steroids to rush further south. the low must intensify over scandinavia and move southward while the greenland high spreads furtehr south too. otherwise we're fucked.

this prediction look ok for next week

    http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/...&code=code&y=5

    this does not ...

I'm not overly fussed ... it'll be great to get some turns in powder but i'm not going to throw the toys out of the pram if i can't. I'm up for meeting the rest of the euromaggots and getting some time to check out switzerland as i've never skied there before.

I've gifted my quota of pow to Brownmonkey who's lapping it up in Tahoe at the moment. He'll want to ski a bit of fast hardpack and wind affect next week in France. Just wait and see.
