    Hows Engelberg doing now? Or any guesses how it would be doing in two weeks?

    Arriving in Verbier on March 6th. Hopefully just in time for the crowds to have gone home and the powder to have built up............

    Trubsee = 115cms
    Titlis = 195cms

    Snow conditions varied off piste. Needs some more snow to make it epic for you but coverage is good.

    A few flurries over the next 6 days, no major dumps.

    Austrias still the main place to get some in the next 10 days i think.
    Semper in Pulveris .... Only the depth varies

    try to upload the pics here on TGR or on biglines and link them. im soo lazy.
    but nice they are. as yoda would say.
    edit for cant: pretty bad according to SLF stations. it needs a few more northern dumps. it did not benefit from the recent dumps that much AND did not have a decent base. but andermatt is right around the corner and they a faring quite well it seems.

    Hmmm, okay.

    So heres the question. Flying to zurich march 2-12th. Where would the best place to go that has easy train access. St. Anton was the original plan, but looks pretty booked up for housing.

    My dad is coming with me, so some piste options would be necessary. But also enough to keep me happy off piste for a week.

    also, an area with mags to ski with is a plus.

    andermatt. i'd say. or to the unexplored southern switz/tessin. some resort got 120cm of fresh over night from yesterday to today. and the south side will see some more snow(but not such ammounts ) until the weekend. it will be clear and rather cool then

    andmatt could/ will be tracked by then i guess. but you can still score freshies on the more "interesting" routes because most offpiste skiers are on the mellow side there.

    edit: wait. youarrive on march 2nd. wait what the weather does. it could get quite nteresting by the end of feb so my recommendations may change.

    I guess its anyone's guess for two weeks out...and to be honest all these areas look pretty damn good.

    The only issue with waiting is finding a place that close to leaving...doesnt bother me at all, but my pop is a little worried by the "we'll meet in zurich, check the weather, and then go somewhere" planning process.

    Just came back from Arlberg, scored 4 epic days. Last mini storm was on Friday, roughly 20-40 cm cover with more in windloaded spots, conditions fairly stable.

    Kanutten sorry I missed you on Friday, please leave cell phone switched on next time.

    Place booked in Engelberg March 3-11th. Lets hope it starts to snow between now and then....

    How easy is transportation to Andermatt from Engelberg? Looks like there is a train, but its not exactly direct. I will be without a car for the trip.

    Well, it was more to it than that. The f***ing phone died on me! I have just learnt that humidity+sonyericsson=no love. Left it in my chestpocket and the humidity from general sweat andsoforth killed it. Sorry about that, but not much I could do.

    Let's say next time. Glad to hear you had a good time, as I indeed had

    It is easy to get to Andermatt from Zurich by train, and it is easy to get to Engelberg from zurich by train, but I actually think it is a bit cumbersome to get to Andermatt from Engelberg by train. Check the excellent website;
    http://www.sbb.ch/en/

    Seems like it will take you almost 4 hours with a couple of trainswitches. But it is doable. Today you could leave at 17.15 and arrive at 22.03. Not too bad.

    the combe opened today after being closed since the storm. 110cms accumulated, soft and untracked on upper 3/4s, heavy consolidated on lower 1/4. skiers right was destroyed by avy bombs but skiers left was schweet all the way down. p.s. reusch is open too.

    oh oh.
    seems like winter will be ending below 2000m.

    3.3. is the day. from there on it will get warmer and start nuking in the west. above 1300-1500m. snow levels will stay in the valleys until thursday and rise quickly. above 1800-2000m there will be a lot of new snow in the west.
    the eastern alps are fucked though. föhn and warmth will melt erverything pretty good.

    this trend is pretty certain. although details(snow amount and snow levels +-few hundred meters.) may vary.

    and on march 8th it would be summer (0 deg in 3000m +). but that is so far away so i hopethis turns out to be false. so this is not a prediction.

    Does Engelberg fall into the "western alps" designation? Please say yes.

    Don't worry, Cant, it's going to be cold and snowy in Engelberg next week. 30cm between now and Fri is forecast, with temps below freezing at 1000m.
