Western CH: Forecasts of MeteoSuisse and Sno4 seem to be insync this week. Good sign.

    - Minor disturbance coming in from France today will cause flurries in the Jura. Not expected to make it to the Pre-Alpes.
    - Disturbance Weds/Thurs., Edit: warmer temps and ...upgraded maps put freezing lvl ~1800m!
...4 me, Thurs may not be worth the drive and ticket if the snow falls wet.

    - Weekend; another disturbance. Epicenter and amounts are anyone's guess.

Nothing epic, but we need all that falls.

Getting a bit crazy here in Eastern Austria, buildings collasping under the heavy snow. Emergency services, the army and local people all helping to get snow off buildings. Some towns have been shut and at least 2 people have died from roof avalanches.

Wow snow on the 3 day forecast, I'm getting excited. French Alps seem like the place to be, for once!

Did a couple of ski tours today and yesterday and actually the snow ain't bad! The Berard Valley was quite powdery yesterday... then today broke the trail up to the Col du Tacul. Somewhat wind-affected but after four weeks of much worse it was really awesome. Hoping Thursday-ish will be real pow though!

My friend Ben in Zermatt says they've been getting even less snow than us though -- appearently they only just opened the Hohtalli-Gant piste a week ago, so look out...

There's some rad stuff hidden in Zermatt however, especially if those Big Daddies have Freeride bindings. Let me know if you want some pointers.

Wanker...You do know that there's no snow in Delft and my Big Daddies as well as Stormrider DP's look a bit pathetic in the corner of my room. Luckily I will be heading to Verb for the weekend, so hopefully I'll get my fix, atleast if the snow is crap I can always watch the VerbierRide big mountain qualifiers % finals on Mt Gele.

    Have fun with Schnappi

well... it was quite good at the kripp for the last 6 days
with 3.5m at the top and 1.5 in the valley you can have some decent skiing. oh did i forget to say that they have more base in the valley at 600m than most swiss resorts got at 2500m ?

but the collapsing stuff was more in south eastern germany in the bavarian wood. no real skiing there though

BUT: the swedish ski bum type of guys have found it !!!!! And 12 swedes who know all the good lines(they've been there for 3 weeks now AND know a local guy) are pretty bad for the kripp..... because now all the czech "oh there are tracks let's follow those" guys start skiing the fun lines earlier....... and when those swedish guys ride in 4 groups it starts getting hard even for me to get first tracks. (it stands 2:2 concerning the lines you can only ski once though..... and considering their overwhelming force i'd say i got away quite good)
weather outlook: yeah warmth and snow. france/cham should get shitloads but the rest of the alps will get some too.
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

I know the Bavarians are having their problems too but ....

Two Austrians have died from roof avalanches already. Bad Gastein (or was it Badhofgastein) was shut to traffic because of too much snow. Mariazell (Austria) town hall collasped.

VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Heavy snow caused the roof of a town hall in southern Austria to collapse, officials said Saturday. No injuries were reported.

The collapse of the main building housing administrative offices for the town of Mariazell in the province of Styria caved in late Friday night, and 60 workers laboured overnight to stabilize the rest of the building, Austrian television reported.

Damage was estimated at about $185,000 US, officials said.

Possible injury or loss of life was averted when a passer-by noticed the roof straining beneath the weight of snow and ice and alerted authorities, who rushed to the scene to ensure no one was still inside, state broadcaster ORF said.

On my weekend warrior run down to Hochkar (base of 420cm) there were plently of people on the roofs clearing snow and a crane even blocked the road at one point.

I see that snowforecast has forecasted snow in the eastern alps today. Reporting from St Anton; nothing has been falling so far. It is +3 degrees c downtown, so if it is coming one needs to go higher.

But the skiing so far has been absolutely excellent. I can pride myself in not having skied one single piste (except for those that are necessary in order to get from A to B). Short summary; sun: Valluga to zurs, madlochjoch to zug, gondola from zurs towards valluga (?) - one hour bootpack, followed by a mandatory 3 m drop into a northernly faced bowl (great fun). Mon: 2* sonnenkopf to langen - never skied that one before; A GREAT RUN. Then hinterrendl. Tuesday; Touringday. Bootpacking up to one of the Rendl mountains after having traversed right down the hinterrendl. Skiing down to puttnau. Then up to hinterrendl again, and skinning up the ??spitze. Today (wednesdaz); bootpacking up to valluga and skied the westface down to zurs. And now taking the rest of the day off.

Many details here, but to sum it up: It has been powderskiiing everyday. And damn good ones too. Having a blast.

But now it would be good with some more snow
All work and no play, ... you know...
