Hope it starts dumping in Valais soon: heading up to Zermatt in a week, just for a long weekend type thing but still...

I think Chamex may well have missed the weather window to take a guided group up the Midi this week.

the big dumping will be from south (some 5 cm are already here in milan, and counting), so chances for valais, cham, etc are very, very . But you guys might go to monterosas (champoluc and gressoney) by sunday and prolly find what you are lookin for

I e-mailed str8line about going to Gressoney first (big dump due) and he said we're totally flexible, so we may get some sweet pow turns on Sunday!

fyi, although monte rosa is going to get some, there still isn't a whole lot going around there. i was lined up for 5 guided days that have fallen through...

Unfortunately we decided to change the period of the off-piste skiing course because at the moment we don't have snow to go off-piste.

absolutely right. Also, there's no bottom, and a big dump in two days means high ava risk.

Well look at that - it's snowing very lightly out there now. Maybe some dust on crust tommorrow, yay.

It could be worse we could be in Virginia.

OK, snowing pretty hard right now. Wow mountain weather changes fast. Crossing my fingers it keeps up here! God is it nice to see snow out my window again...

Damn Italy and Zermatt are supposed to get slammed! http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/alps_dynamical.shtml I got a three days free pass in Verbier but it seems on the edge of the dump/no-dump zone... any update from over there? TeleAl?

I have a luxury problem; I can get on a really cheap charter tour to chamonix now this saturday the 28th of Jan (provided that the pilots at scandinavian do not continue their stupid strike). But I will not go if the conditions are so and so. So I am really interested in up to date info on the snowconditions in Chamo/La Palud/cormayeur.

If anyone has the info, please feel free to post or pm me...

    Mmm.. No.

I just try to maximize my skijoy per dollar spent. I'm an economist - can't be helped.

When I come to think of it I also try to maximize my skijoy per vacation day spent. One goal, two constraints - sounds like a LP problem.

Okey - just came out of the closet as a total econgeek...

mid-day news.... 35 cm of snow in milan, and counting (we might get 50-60 by the end of the day), not a single drop so far in verb, courm, champ, gress.... something possible later in alagna and macugnaga.

Ah, the classic 'Genoa Low'. Italy seems to have vast tracts of mountains with no damn ski resorts in 'em. Grrr.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    Dont do it mangs!

Monte Rosa is fucked for a long time to come.

A 1-1.5m dump will do nothing there, because there is absoloutely no base in the area. After that 1m dump, you would need 2 more to make it skiable.

In short, unless miracles happen,MoRo is fucked for this season.

I have gotten very depressed emails from there...

    Poor bastards.

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

    Thanks Meathelmet!

verbier61, from your chart it looks like it would be snowing in Cervinia and the Aosta Valley?
